Quick Tips

Toggle What?

This is one topic I get asked about all the time, so here's a refresher for you! First of all, let me ask you, "Do you toggle?" Well, what I really mean is, "Do you use togglekeys?" Not sure what that means or what those are? Then allow me to explain! Basically, togglekeys are any keys on your keyboard that have more than one function. Let's check them out!

Some examples are the Caps Lock key, the Num Lock key and the Scroll Lock key. The Caps Lock key is a togglekey, because you can either enable it or disable it, depending on if you want to type in all CAPS or not. The Num Lock key can also be turned on or off. If you have it enabled, you can use the number keypad on the far right of your keyboard to type in actual numbers. If you have it turned off, you won't be able to type anything.

Now, those are just a couple examples of togglekeys. There are plenty more just waiting for you all around your keyboard. So, can you find some others you may use in your every day computing that you never even knew about? I'm sure everyone can come up with a few. It's time to toggle, my friends!

Where I really like them is when I'm using my computer. I can watch videos, listen to MP3s, - whatever - and these headphones keep it quite for everyone else. I even have them hooked up to my iPod as I type this review up - it's just great!

Plus these come with EVERYTHING you need to hook up! Yup, the headphones, transmitter, cables, and stereo adapter. Looking at all you get, there's virtually no audio system you can't hook these into!

Oh, and are these comfortable! These have a great fit and you can wear them for hours. They are really lightweight and it's easy to forget you're wearing them after a few minutes!

Q:
The other day, I heard something about Internet Explorer 7 now being required for every computer user. Is that true? Can Microsoft really do that? Please explain!

A:
Oh, I'm so glad you asked! I was going to go over this today one way or the other, so it's great that you brought it up. If you're an avid Internet Explorer user, you have probably already heard about this, but for those of you who haven't, I'm here to clear up all the confusion. All of this really isn't as bad as you think, so just hang tight. Everything's going to be okay. So, without further ado, let's get started!

Microsoft announced last week that with its February 12, 2008 Windows updates, an upgrade for Internet Explorer 7 will be included. And yes, that's whether you like it or not. So, basically, if you've been putting off the upgrade, you will soon be forced to install the new version of the IE Web browser. Microsoft is going to be pushing this on just about everyone (businesses included) who has not yet installed IE 7. Now, I know that doesn't seem quite fair, but keep reading. I have more to explain!

First of all, Microsoft said they are doing this mostly for security reasons. IE 7 is much more secure and it has a lot more features to offer the average user. The layout of IE 7 is very simple and it's much easier to work with and manage. (You can read this article for the full scoop on what all IE 7 entails). So, if you're still using Internet Explorer version 6, you can see why Microsoft is pushing the upgrade so much. Yes, I know it means you'll have to get used to something new, but this type of change is for the better. I promise! And hey, I'm going to have to do it too. We're all in the same boat!

When the update comes through to your computer on February 12, 2008, it will be marked as an Update Rollup package. If your computer is set to approve Rollup packages, the update from IE 6 to IE 7 will automatically be installed for you. Now, I have some more news for you that may make you a little happier. There is a way you can still block the IE 7 install from coming through to your PC. But, before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I'm not recommending you do that. As I've already stated, Internet Explorer 7 is a good Web browser and it will do you good to try it. But if you're absolutely against trying something new, here's what you can do.

You can turn your automatic updates off. To do that, go to Start, Control Panel and click on the Security Center link (you'll need to be in the category view to do this). Once you're there, click on Automatic Updates and then click the option of "Turn Automatic Updates Off." Of course, doing that is not recommended by Microsoft, but it's one way you can bypass the IE 7 install. Click OK when you're done.

Now, if you turn your automatic updates off, you still need to get them for the month of February, so you will need to do it manually. And you can do that right from this Web site. There you can pick and choose what you want to install and that way, you can skip past the one for Internet Explorer 7. Note: Once the February updates are over, don't forget to turn your automatic updates back on. Otherwise, you might miss out on some really important stuff later on. Also, keep in mind that this update does not pertain to Windows Vista, because IE 7 already automatically comes with that operating system.

I do understand your reasoning for passing on the upgrade this time, but I want you to remember that the day is going to come when you're going to have to start using IE 7. One day, there won't be any way to block it, so maybe you should think about giving it a try now. You have until February 12 to decide!

MS Office

No Accidental Replacement Saves

Do you have an MS Word, Excel or PowerPoint file you frequently open, make changes to and then save under a new name? Is it important for you not to lose the original information? How many times have you accidentally overwritten the original information with the new file?

I bet the answer to that is something along the lines of, "Way too many to remember!" I'd also bet those experiences are better left forgotten, as they can be very frustrating moments.

Would you like a quick and fool proof method of using that file, without ever losing the original information?

I'm sure I heard a few "Yes!" answers out there, so let's take a look!

Begin just like any other day: File menu, Open choice (or, for those of you with Office 2007, it's the Office Button, Open choice).

In the Open window, navigate to find your file, as usual, but wait just one moment before you hit the Open button.

Have you ever noticed that the Open button has a down arrow at the end of it?

Take a look:

Yep, that's right. The arrow indicates a menu of choices for that button. Go ahead and click that down arrow.

See the "Open as Copy" choice? Choose that.

Your program will then open a copy of the document (not the document itself), leaving the original version safe and sound!

No more information accidentally sent into computer oblivion. Yes!

More Cool Stuff

HUGE RESPONSE!

WOW - This just flew off the shelves on Friday! Thank You to the hundreds who ordered! It's a fantastic program and one you'll really love having installed on your computer. If you missed out, give this a try - you'll be glad you did! I can't recommend this one highly enough!

Need More Hard Drive Space?

Recover GIGs Of Hard Drive Space In Just Minutes!!

Our BEST Price EVER Today - $8.97!!!! (really!)

Time To Get Rid Of The JUNK!!! The Easy Way!

OK, I tend to run a pretty tight ship when it comes to my computer. I don't mess around. It's lean and mean - I don't have any excess files taking up space, no left over registry entries, no software hiding out on my HD, very few temp files, in short - no excess. Or so I thought!

I ran Spring Cleaning and in about two minutes it recovered 4 GIG of space! I couldn't believe it! Just one click and I make a HUGE space gain on my hard drive! And that's only one of about 20 such buttons!

So, next I was off to the registry section. I click Fix Registry expecting only to find a few minor problems. Wrong again! This time, it finds 608 entries that were no longer valid! The programs for them were long gone, but the entries remained! Clean up was just a click away.

Now I'm thinking, "This is great, but what else is there?" So, I decide to check for duplicate files. Now, this time I'm sure the results are going to be light.

Good thing I'm not a betting man! This software found a whopping 8,425 duplicate items (I was shocked)! Now, many of these files just share a name, so I left them alone. However, I still found a lot of stuff that I could easily clean out - and this program made it simple!

In addition, this features a program uninstaller that's absolutely fantastic. It really puts the Windows add/remove programs utility to shame. Most uninstallers just get rid of the main program files. Lots of stuff gets left behind - especially registry entries. Well, this scans the program files and finds EVERYTHING! It even shows you what it's found - registry entries and all! A quick click and it's gone. This alone is enough reason to grab this title!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! This can also move programs to a new location on your computer, or transport them to another PC! It can compress programs that you don't use often to save space, backup programs, give you graphs for storage usage, and tons more!

To say I'm impressed with this software would be the understatement of the year! This thing is AWESOME! My windows install really isn't all that old (3 months), but this software managed to find literally thousands of ways to make it better.

Oh, almost forgot - it's designed to make it easy for everyone to work with too! It has automatic settings for just about every function, but also gives power users advanced options.

Take a look at all this can do:

Remove unwanted programs
Easy, One-Click cleanup
Backup, restore, and archive programs
Remove cookies
Remove Active X controls and plug-ins
Transfer programs between PCs
Monitor installs for better removals
Fix and clean the Registry
Get rid of leftover files
Graphically view disk and file space
Undo accidental changes

AND MORE!

This software is just fantastic. It can really help you to recover wasted space and get things running better. If you are using Windows, this is something you've got to try!

Your cost is just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! This is the current version and retails for $30, so you're getting an amazing deal on a piece of software that' a must have! It's the best $12.97 you'll ever spend on your PC!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=1856

PS - I personally can't believe how much space was gained by using this software. Then to eliminate a ton of duplicate files and fix over 600 registry problems, all I can say is WOW!

Tip of the Day

Resetting Your XP Password

We are all pretty lucky when we forget our password on an online Web service, wouldn't you agree? I mean, if you ever forget your password, almost all Web sites can e-mail it to you or they allow you to reset it by answering a security question. But what if you forget your password for Windows XP? It's happened to the best of us and when it does, you may think there's no way to recover it. Well, I'm happy to tell you there is a way and that's what I'm going to show you today! You know, just in case it ever happens to you. Here we go!

1.) If you ever forget your password for Windows XP, you need to start your computer in Safe Mode. To do that, reboot your computer and as soon as you see your manufacturer's logo pop up, repeatedly hit the F8 key on your keyboard.

2.) Soon after, you will see this menu:

Make sure the Safe Mode option is highlighted and press Enter.

3.) When the log in screen appears, log in to your Administrator account.

4.) A dialogue box will then appear, notifying you that your computer is running in Safe Mode. Just select Yes for this one.

You may also notice that your resolution is a little distorted.

If so, that's okay. It will go back to normal after you reboot again.

5.) Next, select File, Control Panel. Then double click on the User Accounts icon, which looks like this:

6.) All of the accounts on your computer will be displayed. Go ahead and select the account you would like to remove the password from.

7.) After that, select the link.

8.) Finally, if you'd like to add a new password, you can select the link. But be sure to write this one down in a safe place, so you don't have to go through this again!

I hope you enjoy this one. It can be a real timesaver if you ever forget your Windows XP password!

What the Font?!

Have you ever run across an image with a font you really liked, but didn’t know what it was? Well, never fear! Now, you can identify those mystery fonts with ease on this Web site. Oh yeah!

How does it work? Well, it’s quite simple! You just click the Choose button and then find the image with the font you like wherever you saved it on your computer. Or, you can put in the URL of the image with the font and then click Upload Image. The site will then try to match the font with the best of its ability. For more tips on submitting your font for a match, make sure you check out the usage guide.

What happens next is the application tries to identify characters in the image you submitted. So, you’ll see your image repeated many times down the page with a box next to it. In the box, there will be a character the application thinks it found in the image. You need to make sure each character is correct. If they aren’t put in a correct character, go ahead and click the Search button.

Now, it will load up which fonts it thinks matches and you can then scroll down the page and compare your image to the fonts they have selected.

If it can't match the font, don’t despair! Help is still there waiting for you in the What the Font Forum. Just click the Consult an Expert link at the bottom of the page and you’ll be taken to the log in page. It’s really easy to sign up. Just fill out the form and click the Create Account button. Then just submit your query to the forum members. The people on there are really good at figuring out which font is in your image. You’ll see the most recent posts to the font forum right on the front page and you can also click Next to look through all the entries.

This site is a real haven for font junkies like me. Check it out today!
