NoScript If you're big into using the Firefox Web browser, you probably already know about NoScript, but just in case you're new to Firefox or if you haven't started using it yet, here's a brief description for you. We here at WorldStart have actually mentioned NoScript in a couple other tips before, but we've never really focused in on it as much as we should have. And I figured today would be as good a day as any to take care of that. So, whether you're already using NoScript or you're just hearing about it today, let's see what we've got! First of all, NoScript is a Firefox add on and it has been around for quite some time. In fact, it won the "PC World Class Award" back in 2006 and it is still going strong! It is one of the most popular add ons available for Firefox today. So, what does NoScript do? Well, it's a tool that basically adds extra protection to your Firefox browser. In other words, it only allows JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plug-ins to run on the Web sites you choose and trust, such as your online bank. All other sites are blocked by NoScript. Sounds like a deal to me! NoScript also aids in preventing cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks. With its features, NoScript is able to stop any security vulnerabilities from being exploited and it also keeps your Firefox up and running with no loss of functionality. If you do some research on NoScript, you will find that many experts and average users alike agree that Firefox really is a lot safer with NoScript. If you'd like to get in on the action, you can download NoScript right here. Just click on the Install Now button and you'll be on your way to a more secure and safe Firefox. Oh yeah! ~ Erin Make sure you keep reading to find out why you might be having trouble installing new programs on your Windows Vista computer, learn all about what the F2 key can do for you in MS Excel and find out what some of the hidden features are in Windows Vista's Explorer. We all need to hang stuff from time to time - grab these now or you'll wish you had 'em later :-) Q: A: With Windows Vista, it seems like you can encounter a whole array of issues every time you try to install a new piece of software, a new utility, a new driver or anything else for that matter. And those problems are usually caused by one of three things: 1.) A conflict between the new program and one you already have installed on your computer. 2.) A problem within the new application itself. 3.) An improper installation or problems with the installation. So, now that you know what could be causing your problems, there are some solutions! If, after you install a new program, you're having trouble with your overall computer or even with some of the other programs you already have on your PC, the first thing you should do is uninstall the program and try it again. There could have been some complications with the initial install and a fresh start may be just what your computer needs. Also, when you're going through the install, just make sure you're following the directions exactly and not missing any important information along the way. Now, if the first install messed up your computer so much that you can't even boot into Windows, you'll need to try booting into Safe Mode. By doing that, you'll be able to troubleshoot and figure out exactly what's causing the problem. You should then be able to boot up normally and try the install again. If neither of those suggestions worked for you, there is something else you can check on. When you're installing a new piece of software, you should always ensure that you have the latest version and all of the new updates. If the program has updates, you won't be able to install it correctly until you get them. You can get the updates by visiting the manufacturer's Web site. The same goes if you're trying to install a new piece of hardware that needs updated drivers. You also need to make sure the program you're installing is Vista compatible. A lot of the older programs you have may not work with Vista and if you're having trouble installing them, that's probably why. When Microsoft designed Windows Vista, they didn't really account for a lot of the older programs most of us use, so you have to do a lot of trial and error when you're installing new applications. Programs that worked just fine with Windows XP may be completely different with Vista. That's just one more thing to keep in mind! Other than that, you should be able to find the cause of your problem and choose the solution that works the best for you. I hope all of your Vista install problems are now a thing of the past! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below:
The Wonders of F2 in Excel When you're working in MS Excel and you need to edit something that is already in a cell, what do you do? Do you click on the cell and then click into the formula bar to edit the contents? Or, maybe you double click the cell and edit directly inside of it. Sounds like a lot of clicking, doesn't it? Yeah, it did to me too. Plus, for people who don't really like to use their mouse, it can turn into a clicking nightmare! Want a way to get into your cells and edit them without the mouse? Yes? I thought at least some of you might! So, the next time you need to edit a cell, simply select it. If you want to avoid the mouse, try navigating with the Page Up, Page Down and arrow keys. Now, hit the F2 key. If the cell contains a formula, you should now see it displayed right there in the cell and you'll have a cursor for your editing needs. If the cell contains text or numeric data, you can see all the text or the data with a cursor as well. When you finish your editing, simply hit the Enter key to have Excel accept your changes. So, now that you've awakened from your nightmare, happy editing! ~ April

I like to use headphones but I just can't stand the stupid wires getting tangled up all the time - and for that matter, me getting tangled up in the wires all the time! Wireless just ROCKS!! Why so excited? Well, like the other night, my wife and kids decided to turn in early and I was still wide awake. So I decided to pop in a movie, but didn't want to wake anyone up (still wanted to hear the words though). Well, these headphone really came to the rescue! I just hooked them up to the TV's audio out and had an awesome theater like experience! WOW!!! It was great! - They sounded WAAAAY better then my TV!! Get yours today! Amazing Closeout Deal! "My WHAT Is Messed Up?!?" Stop Letting Your Doctor Confuse You!! Awesome Medical Dictionary - Have you ever noticed when you go to the doctor or look up a medical condition online that wading through the sea of medical jargon can be more than a little overwhelming? What did he mean by your accelerator nerve not acting right? What's up with alkaline phosphatase levels? If terms like that throw you, then you need a good medical dictionary - and we have the best for you today! We have the CD version of Merriam-Webster's Medical Desk Dictionary and, let me tell ya, you’re gonna just love it (plus at the price we have it, you’re gonna get a steal on it too)! First though, why would you want it? To me, the biggest reason is that if I'm diagnosed with any condition, I want to understand it completely. I don't want to just "get the drift", I want to know precisely what's wrong with me (who wouldn't?). I don't know about you, but I hate being confused at any level when it comes to my health. However, without the right vocabulary, that's exactly what's going to happen. As for features, this is about as complete as it can get. Not only can you look up a term (59,000 of 'em), but you can also search by what terms would likely be found in the definition. For instance, if you have a heart problem, but can't quite remember the exact term your doc used (other than it started with an "a" and you'd know it if you saw it), you can look up all the definitions that include the word "heart" and find the term that way! Plus, get this - it includes over 42,000 audio pronunciations too! Not only will you get the definition, but you'll also hear how the word is properly pronounced. Great if you're doing online research and don't want to sound clueless in front of your doc :-) You can also look up words by partial spellings, usage, verbal illustrations, and more. If you can't seem to get the spelling right, no worries there either - it can help you figure out the correct spelling of any medical term! Now that's cool! This even allows you to bookmark and print out definitions! This is a TON better than any kind of paper medical dictionary you might have been using. The spelling help alone is worth it! The deal on this is just spectacular too. These is the current version and retails for $30. However, you get it for just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! A tremendous deal on an incredibly useful program. Use it just once and you'll thank me! Take a look: http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=2577 PS - Please note that this is the last of these - and your last chance to own this fantastic title! Get 'em while you still can!
Hidden Tricks in Vista's Explorer When Microsoft redesigned Windows Vista's Windows Explorer interface, a lot more functionality was included, compared to previous versions of Windows. While some of the new functionalities are noticeable, a lot of the built in hidden features are not easily found or recognized. So, that's what we're going to talk about today! One in particular is featured below. Address Bar If you're not used to viewing the Explorer path as a breadcrumb trail and you want to view the full path, simply left click anywhere to the right of the path in the address bar and you will see the full path displayed (in a Windows XP style). To return to the other view, you can hit the Esc key on your keyboard. (Note: To display the XP style full path, just click where the circle is shown in the address bar). To quickly create a shortcut to the location you are viewing, right click anywhere to the right of the path in the address bar and select Copy Address. That will put the text of the path on your clipboard, allowing you to switch to your desktop, right click and select Paste Shortcut (or wherever you want to place it). Since the path is stored on your clipboard, it can also be pasted in a document, e-mail and so on. If you're in a deeply nested folder where the address bar does not have room to show the entire path, click on the double arrows to the left of the first item. Clicking that will show the parent folders that do not actually fit on the address bar.
One more thing: clicking anywhere on the address bar and typing in a URL, such as http://www.worldstart.com, will launch your Web browser and open the Web site you specified. Enjoy! ~ Ramachandran Kumaraswami If you enjoy our tips, tell your friends. That's what keeps this newsletter growing.
Use That Viewfinder Let's jump right in! Our article on viewfinder diopter adjustment prompted this comment: "Who cares what the picture looks like through the viewfinder? I use the LCD screen anyway." So, why, with that fancy LCD screen on the back of your camera, would you even consider squinting into the primitive viewfinder? One word: Speed I don't know if you've ever noticed, but most regular (non-SLR) digital cameras are a bit slow when it comes to shooting action. It seems as if the LCD monitor likes to show you what happened a split second ago. You shoot, miss, shoot again, miss again and so on. I don't think I need to continue! Well, here is what's really great about that unappreciated viewfinder you've got. For one, it sees the word in real time. There's no delay at all (okay, you do need to wait for the light to travel from your subject to the viewfinder, but that's getting a bit picky!) So, when you're trying to take an action shot (like your child on a merry-go-round), go ahead and pull that camera to your face. Don't worry about the effects of any nose grease on the back of the camera and just go for it. You'll find that getting the perfect image isn't so tough after all and that your viewfinder actually does serve a purpose! ~ Steve For stories, jokes, quotes and cartoons every day, sign up for our Just for Grins newsletter. Are you ready to listen to the soundtrack of your life? I have to say, I am a real sucker for these kinds of Web sites that allow you to create custom music stations based on your music preferences and mood! Here at Meemix, all you need to get started is the name of a song or an artist you like. The site will then give you a list to choose from and if what you're looking for is there, great! Go ahead and choose it and it will start playing for you. If it didn’t find what you wanted, simply try a new search. Once you’ve found something you like (I did have to search several times, but then again, I like a lot of music that isn’t mainstream), it will ask you to register so that you can save your preferences. Registration is very easy! All you have to do is click Register (it doesn’t even interrupt the song your station is playing), type in a username, click the button next to that to check its availability and then enter in a password. Next, it needs an e-mail address and for you to type in your confirmation image. That’s it! You are now logged in and Meemix is recording your preferences. Now, you will notice on the left side of the screen that you have a station listing and beneath that, you have some slider bars for your Mood Control. The first one is surprise, the second is pulse and the third is volume. The first one (surprise) controls the variety of the station, playing tunes that are more of a variant than what you originally selected. This is a great way to discover music. The second one (pulse) controls the tone of the music. The left is more relaxed and the right is more upbeat and aggressive. The third controls the volume of the music. Now, if you hear something you don't like, you don’t have to keep listening to it. Just use the slider bar under the middle section of the page. Slide it all the way under and the station will move on. You may have to do this quite a bit at first, but it is very worthwhile, as your choices customize your station. Of course, if there is something you really like, make sure you rate it as "hot" so that you keep getting more music just like it! Game Mode – This is a fun way to spend your time on Meemix! What you have to do is identify music you hear in the first 30 seconds. It is based off the music you listen to on your station, so you have a good chance of answering correctly. I got really addicted to it and made apprentice in no time at all! Each question is worth 12 points originally and it goes down as you use the hints. Of course, you get zero points if you answer incorrectly. If you click the X in the top right corner, you can go back to your station, where you can continue to listen to your music. If you run into any problems, you can always check out the Quick Help section. You’ll find that button right above the station in the right hand side corner. There you will find some quick tips that will really help you out. So, what are you waiting for? Go make your stations and enjoy! ~ Amanda Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?
