Now Available: Winamp 5.531 I know I'm running a little behind on this, but I still wanted to make sure everyone heard the news. On April 11, 2008, the latest version of the popular Winamp media player (v5.531) was released and it is now available for download. I'm sure all of you avid Winamp users out there have been using it for the last few days, but just in case you didn't know, now you do! And as with every new release, this one comes with a couple new features and several issues have been fixed. Let's take a look! In order for you to fully understand what has changed in the 5.531 version, I'm going to list the fixes that were posted right on the Winamp Web site. All of these issues were fixed: Bento browser redirecting some URLs to the Winamp Search, Bento collapse/expand button bug, recent URLs not saving, total time display of selected tracks in the Classic playlist, AOL radio skipping/buffer issue, right click Play/Enqueue all items in three pane views and broken right click context menu items. Wow, that's a lot, huh?! Now, if you use Winamp on a regular basis, you probably noticed that a 5.53 version was released just a few days before v5.531 came out. So, why were two different versions released so close together? Well, the Winamp team actually found quite a few bugs in the 5.53 version and they wanted to clear those up as fast as possible. Hence version 5.531. You definitely can't say they're not looking out for you! If you'd like to download Winamp 5.531, you can do so right here. Note: Winamp's Web site says v5.53, but it is the new version, so don't think you're getting the wrong thing. Now, go on and enjoy your new Winamp player. I know I already am! ~ Erin You can't stop now! There's so much more to read about. Keep going to learn how you can have complete freedom when it comes to moving your windows around, find out how you can set certain things as pixels in MS Excel and learn all about the proper way to use your Webcam. Also, be sure to check out this week's awesome download thanks to Gary and as always, don't miss out on Amanda's Cool Site of the Day. Enjoy!

Check it out, and grab one before they're gone! http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4291 Q: A: Well, what if you wanted to move that window over so you could look at something else on your desktop? Maybe you need to open up another application from an icon on your desktop, but you can't even see your icons, because the other windows are covering them up. What to do, what to do? Don't worry, there's a simple fix! All you have to do is Restore Down the window you want to move. Then you can just grab the top of the window with your mouse and move it wherever you want it to be on your screen. You can even move it all the way to the bottom of your screen so that it will for sure be out of your way until you need it back up. Once the window is smaller, you can take it anywhere! Restore Down is the little box between the Minimize button and the Close button in the upper right hand corner of any window. Just click on that and it will shrink your window down so that you can move it all around. Once you're done, just click that button again and it will bring the window back to its maximum size. Pretty neat, huh? I think it might come in handy for you some day! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: Set It in Pixels? A reader wrote in with an interesting MS Excel question, so I thought I would share it with all of you! They were wondering if there's a way you can set the column widths and row heights using pixels, instead of numeric values. I told you it was a good question! I did some looking around and was able to find a solution. It's probably not what the reader was hoping for, but it's still worth mentioning. While I couldn't find a place to type in an actual pixel value, I did notice something interesting while sliding the column widths using the dividers between the column letters. See it? Yep, not only does the little information bubble list the current column width using the usual numeric value, but it also lists the pixel width in parentheses. (It does the same thing when sliding the row heights). So, it seems to me that if pixels are a necessity for the way you work, sliding the widths/heights is how you can get what you need. If I were you, I'd figure out and create a quick chart equating pixel values to the numeric values. That way, you'll know what number to use with the sizing methods in the Format menu. Oh, and by the way, what exactly does that column width number mean anyway? I stumbled across an explanation and I don't know if it will help or not, but it's interesting, so here you go. For column widths, the number that appears in the column width box is the average number of digits from 0 to 9 for the standard font that will fit a cell in a column. (The standard font is the default font for the worksheet). So, if the column width is 8.43 and you go to a cell and type in 012345678, you'll find that it fits perfectly. However, if you add a 9 to that list, the column will have to stretch to adjust. For row heights, one point equals about 1/72 of an inch or 0.035cm. You should find that the default row height is 12.75, which equals a row height of 1/6 of an inch or 0.4 cm. Also, if you set a row or column height to 0, it will be hidden, without having to remove your data. Okay, so these little factoids don't demystify the universe, but they help to make a little extra sense out of the mysterious number system that seems to govern your Excel worksheets! ~ April

And below is a simple guide you can follow that will help you do just that. Let's get started! Lighting is Everything
Background It's important to pay extra attention to the background light. If it’s brighter than the foreground light, you can do one of two things. First, you can make your foreground light brighter by switching on an additional light source or by switching off the background light. If that's not possible, it’s best to get a collapsible background screen. Go for 5x6 or 5x7, because Webcams have super wide-angle lenses and they see the edges of any backdrop as smaller than 5x6. Placement is Key When working with a Webcam, it's very important to place it in the proper location. It's best to place it at your eye level and preferably in front of you to convey your face. Doing that gives off a professional look and feel of you, particularly if you're in a business conference setting. Therefore, it’s best to place the Webcam on top of your computer monitor. Also, to avoid looking bulbous, don’t get too close to the Webcam.
When you're using a Webcam, it’s best to lower the brightness and contrast of your monitor to the lowest digit possible. That helps to avoid monitor glare on your face and on the Webcam itself. Also, it’s best to wear a white shirt so that you have a good white balance and color exposure. If you have an LCD monitor, remember that it emits polarized light. To get rid of an eyeglass reflection, you can place a polarizing filter in front of your Webcam. Wait Before You Record If you want to record or stream images live, give yourself a couple seconds before you begin recording. Also, don’t move during the recording session, because it takes time for the Webcam to set the focus and make the picture more crisp. It’s also very likely that if you put the most important information in during the first few seconds, some of it might get garbled. Therefore, after you press Play, wait a few seconds before you start moving, talking, singing, dancing or whatever you have in mind. Audio Files If you're particular about the sound you get while using your Webcam, you shouldn't rely on the Webcam's microphone. It's best to use a proper headset microphone or a clip-on mic. If you use the microphone on the Webcam itself, you probably won't get a very clear sound. If you follow all of these tips, your Webcam experience will be much more successful. Have fun! ~ Zahid H. I know I have several times. Everyone will have to go through that process from time to time and it can be quite a hassle. Well, today, I have a free download for you that will save you a ton of time the next time you need to reinstall Windows. The program is called DriverMax and it will eliminate some of your worst headaches! DriverMax does something that I have never seen before. It can create an archive of all your device drivers. By doing that, you don't have to worry about hunting down disks and downloads for all of the hardware on your computer. You simply run DriverMax, click Export Drivers, select the drivers you want to backup and then let it work its magic. DriverMax will save all of those hard to find device drivers for you in one folder. You can then store them on a flash drive or burn them to a disk so that you will never have to search for them again! Then after you format and reinstall Windows, simply insert the disk or flash drive that holds your drivers. You can then tell your computer to look on the flash drive or CD for the missing drivers. If you want to make it even easier on yourself, you can reinstall DriverMax on your computer after you're done and have it install the drivers for you. After installing DriverMax, simply click Import and tell it where to locate the drivers file. It will then handle the rest! I love this program and I only wish I would have found it sooner. It would have saved me so much time! You can read more about DriverMax and download it for yourself right here. Note: This program has a free registration process. You will be required to provide an e-mail address to be able to access the program. Also, it's compatible with Windows XP and Vista only. I like to change my passwords frequently for my own security, but sometimes I can’t think of good passwords to use. But with this Web site, I (and you) will never have that problem again! Password Bird will help you create a password that is unique, but also relevant to you. It’s easy to use and it has a lot of variety, so you can really switch it up as much as you want. Are you ready to get started? Then let's go! To begin, Password Bird asks you three questions: What is a special name to you? For example: What is a special name to you? Amanda Once you’ve answered all three of the questions, click Create Password. Here are a few example passwords it generated from my answers: 20worama, ama08art and artama13. If you don’t like the password it creates the first time, you can click the link under it that says “Don’t like it?” One of the links will randomly generate a new password from the information you provided the first time. The other link will take you back to the main page where you can change the information you gave. You can also check out the About Us section near the bottom of the page. There you can learn about who made the generator and why! This is a very handy site I'm sure I will be using all the time. I hope you do too! ~ Amanda Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?
