XP SP3 is Available! Wow, last week was a really confusing time for me. As you may recall, I wrote a tip letting you all know that Microsoft had delayed the release of the new Windows XP Service Pack 3, which was supposed to be available on April 29, 2008. Well, the very next day, I received the SP3 update in my Windows Updates and several of you e-mailed to let me know you did too. Talk about a whirlwind! I felt bad for giving you incorrect information, but it really ended up being Microsoft who moved ahead without making a proper announcement. Oy vey! But as far as I can see, everything is back to normal now. Yep, you can now download the XP SP3 through either the Windows Updates or on the Microsoft Download Center Web site here. I'm sure a lot of you have already gotten it through your Windows Updates and that's great if you have! Gary, our tech support guru, even downloaded it last week and he said it's working great. He has had no problems with it whatsoever! So, again, if you haven't downloaded the new SP3 yet, you might as well get to it. It's not really coming with any major new features, but it's still a good idea to keep your system as up to date as possible. Plus, the SP3 will give your system more reliability and security, so why pass that up? If you'd like to learn more about what is new with the XP SP3, make sure you keep reading today's newsletter, because there's a whole rundown for you in the Q&A tip below. Other than that, everything seems to be running very smoothly! ~ Erin Don't stop now! Keep reading to learn all about four of the main new features coming along with the Windows XP SP3, find out how you can give your graphics just a little nudge in MS PowerPoint and learn how you can bypass any wireless connection problems at your favorite hotspots. Also, find out how you can hear just the music with today's video tip and of course, don't miss out on Amanda's Cool Site of the Day. Enjoy!

Q: A: The Windows XP SP3 doesn't really come with any major attractions, but it does include four minor new features that improve the system's reliability and security. Contrary to popular belief, Microsoft has been very up front about the new additions for quite some time now. Below is a list of the new features you can expect to find in the Windows XP SP3. They are as follows: Network Access Protection Compatibility - This one was actually announced a few years ago, but it's just now making its debut. This new feature allows XP machines to interact with the NAP application in Windows Server 2008. That functionality is built into the RTM version of Windows Vista as well. Keyless Product Install - As with Windows Vista, the new XP SP3 install can be done without entering in a product key code during the setup. Kernel Mode Cryptographics Module - This is a new kernel module that, according to Microsoft, "encapsulates several different cryptographic algorithms." "Black Hole" Router Detection Algorithm - With this, XP gains the ability to ignore network routers that incorrectly drop certain kinds of network packets. This is also a feature in Windows Vista. There you have it. As you can see, the new features aren't anything out of the ordinary or overly dramatic, but that's what Microsoft promised. And let's face it, it's kind of nice that way, don't you think? Either way, I hope you enjoy your new XP SP3! ~ Ramachandran Kumaraswami Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: Just Give It a Nudge When working in MS PowerPoint, are you frequently frustrated when you try to move objects just a wee little bit? I mean, you're only trying to nudge the text box or graphic a small amount, but every time you try to drag and drop it with the mouse, it just goes too far. A solution for that predicament certainly would come in handy, wouldn't it?! Fortunately, I've got one that's easy to use and remember! First, select the object to be moved. (If it's a text box, be sure you have just the text box itself selected and make sure the cursor isn't inside the text box for editing). Ready to move? Good! It goes quick, so pay attention. Simply tap an arrow key to move the selected object just a nudge in any of the four directions. Also, as a bonus, I found that holding down the Ctrl key while using an arrow key makes the nudge even smaller. That's all there is to it! With the object selected, one press of an arrow key moves it just the tiniest amount. Talk about fine tuning! Have a large distance to cover? Don't worry! You can use this tip for that too. Instead of a quick tap, hold down the arrow key. You'll find that your object zips around the slide as though it had on running shoes! ~ April WOW! These went like crazy last week! Hotspot Connections Another reader asks: I'm an avid wireless user, but I've been having trouble getting connected to the Internet when I go to a free WiFi hotspot. Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong? If you use wireless Internet in your home, you may think it's the easiest thing in the world. I mean, after you get everything connected and hooked up, it's so easy to obtain Internet access. You don't have to worry about any cords, you hardly ever lose connections and it just makes your computer life simple. So, you have mastered using wireless in your house and you think you might as well try it outside of your home too. You go down to the local coffee shop, which is a free WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) hotspot. You turn on your computer and everything is fine until you realize you can't get connected to the Internet. What could possibly be wrong? Well, there is a difference between home wireless use and public hotspot use. Even if your WiFi card shows that you're attached to an access point, you still might not be connected to the Internet and all you will receive are the dreaded "Page Cannot Be Found" messages. The main thing you should remember when you go to a public hotspot (free or paid) is to open up a new browser window before you do anything. Do it before you open up your e-mail, a chat program or any other Internet functions. The browser window you open will usually have a log in screen (or something similar) so that you can get connected to the Web. By doing things that way, paid hotspots are able to collect the fee information they need and free places are able to put up their information and disclaimer screens. The process really only takes a couple seconds and it will save you time for the next time you go to that same hotspot. Most of them have you set up an account with a username and password so that you can just log in easily the next time you visit. You may be wondering what you're supposed to do if the above process still doesn't work. What if you do everything and you still don't get a log in screen? Well, there are a couple of things you can check. Make sure you have your browser homepage set to something. Don't just have it set to a blank page. If it's blank, it won't be able to trigger the needed port opening. You also need to make sure you have the updated Service Packs (at least SP2 for Windows XP). One final thing that may be causing you problems: you might just be too far away from the access point. If you're too far, your signal may be too weak to catch a connection. So, just move a little closer! If you follow the steps and procedures of the hotspots you like to visit, you will no longer have wireless blues! ~ Erin If you enjoy our tips, tell your friends. That's what keeps this newsletter growing.

I adore trivia! I think it's really amazing the different random bits of information we unintentionally store away in our brains. I’m even more amazed by the people who intentionally seek out odd facts to learn and remember. If you're like me and you love trivia too, this Web site is for you! There is no registration or membership needed to play; all you have to do is pick a username and begin! I suggest you start your visit here by checking out the Rules section. They are very important if you intend to play any of the trivia games. Some of the trivia slang will be defined for you in that section as well. My next suggestion is to get your feet wet by joining Chat Room 2. It's a chat room that is available for all users to use at any time. It's non-hosted and you don’t need to have any association with Total-Trivia to get started. So, how's it work? Well, just click on the Chat Room 2 link and when the page loads, type in your username and press Connect. The chat window will open behind the other windows, so you’ll need to minimize them to be able to chat. In the middle of the main page, you'll see a calendar of upcoming trivia events. It also provides worldwide calculations for the times the events are scheduled for. That makes it really easy for everyone to find the best time to play! So, are you ready to dive into some wild trivia action? I know I am. Have fun! ~ Amanda Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?
