Let OE Do It! Are you unhappy with the way you have to check for new e-mail messages each day? I mean, wouldn't it be nice if you didn't ever really have to worry about it? All you would have to do is set your e-mail client to "automatic" and just let it roll. Well, if that sounds like an excellent idea to you, you're in luck, because that's exactly what I'm going to show you how to do today! Note: This tip is only for Outlook Express users. There are a couple things you can do to get OE to do your work for you (if that's how you want to look at it!) Open Outlook Express and go to Tools, Options and then click on the General tab. Under the Send/Receive Messages section, you'll see three different options. For this tip, go ahead and checkmark the ones that say "Send and receive messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every (blank) minute(s)." The first one will actually check for your new e-mail messages every time you start up your computer. So, if you shut your PC down every night, as soon as you boot it back up in the morning, OE will automatically check for any new e-mails you may have gotten throughout the night. The second feature gives you the option of choosing how often you'd like your e-mail to be checked. If you usually get new e-mails all day long, you may want to check it every 15 minutes or so. Or, maybe you want to check it more often or less. If so, just choose your preferred amount of time and OE will take care of the rest. Click OK when you're done. With those two options selected, you'll never have to worry about manually checking your e-mail again. It's all automatic! ~ Erin Don't stop now! WOW! - Check Out These Great Offers Too! Q: A: The first thing you can do is right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Once you're there, hit the Desktop tab and then click on the Customize Desktop button. In the middle of that box, you will see some of the more common desktop icons. Click on the one for the Recycle Bin (it looks like a trash can) and then hit the Restore Default button. Click OK and then go take a look at your desktop. The Recycle Bin icon should be back, but if it's not, don't lose hope. There are still a couple other things you can try! For the next option, go down to your taskbar and right click on any open space. >From the menu that pops up, click on Toolbars, Desktop. The word "Desktop" will then appear at the end of your taskbar with a double arrow beside it. Right click on that arrow and you will see an option for the Recycle Bin. Next, drag and drop the Recycle Bin icon to your desktop. That should reinstate your icon for you, but if you're still having trouble, try this! Right click on your taskbar again and go to Toolbars, New Toolbar. There should be an option there for the Recycle Bin as well. You can then drag and drop that icon to your desktop. Doing any of these three things should bring your Recycle Bin icon back and you can get on with your daily computing. Yes! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: Multiple Categories Do you use MS Outlook 2007's category colors? If you do, you're probably like me and you have quite a few different categories, each with its own color code. Still, I'm sure there are times when you wish you could combine two categories together for a single message, without defining yet another new one that's just simply a hybrid of what you already have. Seems like a waste of time, doesn't it? Yeah, I thought so too. So, as you can imagine, I was very happy to learn I could assign multiple categories to the same message. And you can too! All you have to do is right click over the category section of the message listing. The category list will then open, allowing you to pick an additional category. You'll find that Outlook puts two category rectangles where there used to be only one. In fact, if you repeat the process, you can continue adding categories. So, no more creating new categories just for the sake of combining the ones that already exist. With multiple category labeling, you can mix and match them to your heart's content! ~ April
Move HUGE Files From Computer to Computer! Move Thousands of Files From Computer to Computer! Super-Easy! Incredible Cable Makes It Drag & Drop Simple! You Just Gotta Grab One! WOW! We just got a sweet deal on some amazing USB 2.0 Direct Link Cables! These things are just sooo cooool! I use mine all the time to transfer files and I can't imagine my digital life without one! What do they do? Glad you asked! You just take this handy little cable and plug one end into the computer that has the files you want, then plug the other end into the computer where you want the files. An explorer-like window opens up on both computers - allowing you to just drag and drop your files from one machine to the other! My 6 year old can do it! It's super-simple! Plus, it makes moving around big files and multiple files sooo much easier! For example, when I'm on a trip taking pictures, I off-load onto my laptop. Well, when I get home, I like to transfer those files to my desktop. Without this cable, I'd have to copy groups of them to CD or flash drive - that's no fun! With one of these awesome little cables, things get soooo much easier - I just plug my cable in, drag my photos from my laptop to my desktop, and in a matter of minutes everything is transferred! I absolutely love it! It's great when I have to get files off of a friend's computer too - just plug in and we transfer what we need! While this is really handy for moving around large or numerous files, it's just killer when you get a new computer! Instead of trying to copy hundreds or thousands of files via CD or flash drive, just plug in one of these cables! It's so much easier! It makes getting a new computer almost painless! Oh, and these are driverless too! Just pop the cable in and it works! No CD to install, no drivers to mess with! Isn't that cool?? Oh, and although it works just fine with USB 1.x, it's blazing fast with USB 2.0 ports! It transferred 1 GIG worth of photos about a minute! It's about the fastest way I've come across to transfer files! I don't know about you, but I've spent more than a few long evenings making CDs full of data to transfer from one computer to another - or, more recently, copying a bunch of files to an external HD to do the same job. The pain and hassle of the old way is gone - this little cord makes it so quick and easy! My advice? If you're ever, in your lifetime, going to get another computer or have reason to transfer files from a desktop to a laptop, then this is an absolute must-have. Once you plug it in and try it, you'll wonder how you got along without it. It's one of the most useful devices I think we've ever offered. Your cost? Get this, just $16.97 and US shipping is FREE! I've spent more in CDs to transfer files than that! This is a must-have for everyone with a computer. We've all been there - needing to transfer large files or large numbers of files - and this is the smartest solution I've ever seen. http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=2606 PS - This is a limited quantity deal - make sure you grab one before they all fly outta here! It's a fantastic cable and I can't imagine computing without one now! I just can't recommend them highly enough!! Attachments Let me see a show of hands! How many of you know what an attachment is? I'm guessing most of you do, but it is something that can be a little confusing, so it's always nice to refresh our memories. At least I think so! And that's exactly what you can do with the tip on our homepage today. It's titled "What Are Attachments?" and it goes over everything for you. It's definitely one tip you do not want to miss! That's what keeps this newsletter growing. XP SP3 Support I'm sure every single one of you know about the Windows XP Service Pack 3 update, right? We here at WorldStart have gotten a lot of phone calls and e-mails about the release in the last week or so. Your comments range from how smoothly the install went to how the Service Pack completely crashed your computer and so on. Now, I don't want to scare you with horror stories of XP SP3 failed installs, but it's important to realize that problems do occur. Microsoft tries very hard to make sure the install of any update or Service Pack goes smoothly for all computers, but with Windows installed on millions of computers worldwide, it becomes a difficult challenge. So, the question is: “What do you do if your Windows XP SP3 install fails?” First of all, don't panic! The worst thing you can do in a situation like that is to just start clicking away, trying to fix a problem you don't know very much about. If you do that, you could cause even more damage to your system, which will make it harder to repair. If you come across a problem, there is help available! Microsoft doesn't advertise it, but they do offer free chat, e-mail and phone support for issues such as this. That's right, you can call Microsoft directly if you have any trouble with your XP SP3 install. Here's the telephone number you can use to contact Microsoft for free XP SP3 support: 866-234-6020. It’s amazing how a drop of water, a particle of dust or even a ray of light can be such a beautiful sight! Today, we will journey into the world of Atmospheric Optics. Navigation is very easy as well! You’ll find all of the sections beneath the main image and introduction. They are: Today’s Feature – Here you will find the highlighted image of the day. There will always be an explanation about it on the right side of the page as well. At the top of the page, you'll find a navigation strip. If you press the left arrow, you'll go back through the previous entries. If you press the right arrow, you’ll go to the What’s New page. Rays/Shadows – Have you ever wondered why sunsets look the way they do? Or, why the sun and moon sometimes look distorted? Well, this is where you’ll find the answers to those questions! From the side menu, you can choose to navigate to different parts of this section or move on to the next area. Water Droplets – This section discusses the effect water has on light and how we see it. This is where you can learn about Fogbows, Glory and even Heiligenschien, which I found to be the most fascinating. Rainbows – Rainbows are probably the most commonly known optical treats and here you will learn all about their different types. It was really interesting to find out how many different types there are and the different circumstances that create them. What’s New – Here you will find the latest additions to the Web site. You can check here for recent updates as well. The most recent addition while I was visiting was from March 7, 2008 when they featured halos. Ice Halos – I was very intrigued by the ice halos, especially after seeing the reference image on the page. Here you not only learn about ice halos on Earth, but you also get a chance to explore what ice halos might be like on other planets. High Atmosphere – This section discusses one of my favorite atmospheric events: the Aurora Borealis! It's by far one of the most amazing displays a person could ever see. Although, I must admit, I was blown away by the photos of rocket trails in this section as well. I think you will find this site to be an amazing look into the world of atmospheric optics. Some of the marvels are incredibly amazing, so check it out today! ~ Amanda Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?
