Computer Tips [ I Know Your Password + E-mail Worm Alert + Check Your PCs Performance + Fun DVD Burning ] 04/06/2008

Computer Tipswww.worldstart.com No, this isn't Steve. You can tell because Steve never wears a suit :-)

Quick Tips

What's Your Password?

Steve came across a very interesting article the other day and lucky for all of you, he shared it with me! How does that make you lucky, you ask? Well, the article is titled "10 Most Common Passwords" and it included some mind blowing information that, in my opinion, all of you should know about too. Below is a list of the 10 most commonly used passwords by computer users today. Check it out!

1.) password
2.) 123456
3.) qwerty
4.) abc123
5.) letmein
6.) monkey
7.) myspace1
8.) password1
9.) link182
10.) your first name

Now, let me ask you this: Is your current password on that list? If so, I bet you already know what's coming next. Yep, you are putting yourself at great risk by using a password like that. Passwords like those can be guessed by hackers in a matter of seconds, which means you're only making things easier for them. All in all, if you're using one of the above passwords, I urge you to change it right away. If you need help coming up with a more secure password, read this tip. It's very easy to create a password that will keep you better protected, so please do it today. For goodness sake, please keep yourself safe!

Announcements

WOW! These have been HUGE this month yesterday! Thank YOU to the 3000+ who have ordered! I know you'rere already lovin' it! If you missed out, we want to give you another shot at this amazing program! We've been so impressed by the excellent speed gains - not to mention system tweaks and hard drive space this has saved - that we just had to give you another day at it! Give this one a try - you'll love it!

"If You Only Buy One Program This Year - Grab This One!!"

Make Windows Run Up To 300% FASTER!!

No Kidding - It Made My Computer Smokin' Fast!

Customize, Tweak, Secure, Optimize, And Make 'Er FLY!!

It's Time To Get That "New Computer" Feeling Back!

Oh WOW!! We just got System Mechanic 7 in and it's by far, the very best program I think I've ever seen for getting the most out of Windows! This thing is just gonna blow you away! It did me - and I've seen a LOT of software! This thing is nothing short of amazing! Read on - and get ready to be really - and I mean REALLY - impressed!

First, I'm seriously blown away at how easy this software makes it to really get your computer crankin'! I mean, I don't think there's anything on your computer this can't tweak and optimize!

To test, I installed it on my personal machine and it did a quick scan, and it came up with a warning about a few security problems and gave me some really helpful speed improvement suggestions. With just a couple mouse clicks, I'm now enjoying a MUCH faster -and more secure - computer! And I thought I was as tweaked out as I could be! Not even close - this was incredible - and automatic!

What can it do for you? Let's talk speed - this can make your computer act like it did when you first brought it home - just flying through programs and impressing the livin' daylights out of ya! Heck, your computer might even be faster than when you first got it home!! This has a whopping 19 different ways to crank up the speed on your machine! In fact, many systems see an absolutely incredible 300% improvement after just some automatic adjusting by this program! WOW!!

Want to surf the internet at up to 300% faster? This can help! Windows isn't necessarily optimized for the fastest connection out of the box, but this program can grab your settings and squeeze out the speed - you'll surf the internet like crazy! Who wouldn't want to surf up to 300% faster?!!? Heck, it even has a speed tool to measure how faster you connection speed is! Just fantastic!

Want more? - Sure ya do! Another thing this does that I'm in absolute love with is it lets you customize over 100 "secret" Windows settings! Stuff that you always wish Windows would let you adjust but there isn't really any direct way to do it. This makes it point-and-click easy!! You can: Optimize the way Windows' Start Menu behaves, speed up networking performance, log in automatically, edit your computer registration data, change multimedia behavior, improve pagefile security, customize explorer's context menus, edit advanced administration options, and much more!!

Oh, and just wait till you point your mouse at the Automatic System Maintenance section! I just love this! This part of the program will watch in the background and wait till the system is idle. As soon as you're not using the computer, it will work in the background tuning your computer for absolute peak performance! Here's the really cool part - just touch your mouse, and it stops what it's doing and gives the system back to you! Really! If you've ever been slowed down by a stubborn anti-virus that insisted on scanning while you were working, you know just how cool this is! Oh, and it even lets you pick and choose what optimizations to run!

Another automatic feature I think is just brilliant is the "One-Click" option! It's just what it sounds like - just click the button and System Mechanic runs all of its system enhancement programs and cranks your system up to the next level! Just a button push away! It makes it easy for EVERYONE to have a smokin' system!

Of course, no utility suite would be complete without some killer security tools - and this has the best! This program will quickly scan your system and help you find all the holes - then just plug them with a mouse click! I was really surprised when it found not one, not two, but THREE major holes on my personal PC! I clicked the mouse and the world was safe again!

Oh, and that's not all! This also includes both a world-class Anti-Virus (one of the easiest, most comprehensive AVs I've ever used) and a really top-notch Firewall! Either one retails for more than we're selling the entire suite for! WOW!

PLUS - it destroys spyware, adware, malware and more. OK, put it this way - if it was made to attack your system, this is going to seek it out and destroy it like a battalion of ticked off Marines!

OK, all that's great, but what if your PC is really messed up - like it won't boot? This software can handle that too! Just pop in a recovery CD and System Mechanic will examine your system and get your computer running right again! If you've ever had that sick "why isn't my computer booting" feeling, you can appreciate how great this will be next time it happens!

One more thing and I'll try to stop! System Mechanic is just fanatical about grabbing up wasted space on your hard drive! This just blew me away when it found a whopping 1.5 GIG of wasted hard drive space! Geeze - I've had whole hard drives that were smaller than that! This made grabbing that space back a mouse click away! I tell ya - you just can't go wrong here!

OK - can ya tell I'm impressed? There's actually a LOT more this can do, but I don't want to write a book on it (OK, maybe I've already come close)! I'm currently running this software and couldn't be happier with it. My system is definitely faster than before it was installed and I just love the performance increase! If you only buy one software program this year - GRAB THIS!

Check out these customer testimonials:

Computers 101

Q:
I haven't heard you talk about the Storm Worm lately. Is there anything new going on with it?

A:
Oooh, great question! And your timing is perfect, because I actually just received word the other day that a new issue has developed concerning the Storm Worm attack. Now, before I go any further, I want to refresh everyone's memory on what the Storm Worm is. Basically, it's a Trojan virus that's been circulating the Web since approximately January 2007. The virus comes through as a malicious e-mail and just wreaks all kinds of havoc!

The Storm Worm started out with such subject lines as "A Killer at 11" and "Castro is Dead." It then moved on to lines like "USA Declares War on Iran" and then finished with subjects such as "You've received a postcard from a family member" or "You've received a greeting." Many of you are probably familiar with the "Postcard Scam," because we have written several articles about that in the last few months, but you may not know it's part of the Storm Worm as well. And now, here we are in February 2008 and it looks as if the Storm has hit again, just in time for Valentine's Day. Keep reading for all the details!

The Storm Worm always seems to creep back up during a holiday and since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, it's time to start watching your e-mail very closely once again. According to Snopes.com, there are several subject lines coming through this time. I'll list a few of them for you, but if you want to see the entire list, go here. Here are some of the more common subject lines used for the Valentine's Day Storm Worm:

  • A Kiss So Gentle
  • A Rose for My Love
  • Come Dance With Me
  • Dream of You
  • Eternal Love
  • Heavenly Love
  • I Love You With All I Am
  • Inside My Heart
  • Our Love Will Last
  • Sending You All My Love
  • The Time for Love
  • Why I Love You
  • You're My Dream

So, basically, if you receive an e-mail with a subject line that has anything to do with love, romance or relating to Valentine's Day in any way, don't open it! It's as plain and simple as that. Now, I know a lot of you rely on your e-mail spam filters to sort through your junk mail, but with this one, you really need to keep an eye on your Inbox as well. It seems as if some of the spam filters are having trouble blocking the malicious messages. Snopes said this is happening because the e-mails are being generated by computers that are already infected, which means there are an umpteen number of sources the e-mails could be coming from. In short, your spam filter may be able to block these e-mails, but pay close attention to your Inbox as well, just to be certain.

The Storm Worm e-mails are easily identified by the subject line, but you can also tell them apart by the actual body of the e-mail. Each e-mail contains a short message and a link. The link always uses an IP address instead of a domain name, so if you pay attention, it should look a little funny to you. It will look something like this: http://198.0.0.1, which is not a normal link. Also, just so you're sure, if you open the e-mail, your computer won't be harmed, but if you click on the link, that's when you're in trouble!

The best thing to do is delete the e-mail as soon as you see it. If it looks suspicious to you, don't even waste your time opening it. And by all means, do not click on the link! It's also a good idea to run your virus scans on a regular basis (if you're not doing so already). Yes, it's unfortunate that the Storm Worm is still looming around the Web, but if you're cautious and use some common sense, it won't be able to bother you. Be safe!

I'm so excited! We finally have PhotoStudio Expressions available again! Every time we feature this, it sells like crazy - well, till it sells out! Let me tell ya, if you didn't get in on this before, you've got to this time ~ you're gonna love this all-in-one software! With the amazing deal we have on this today, you've just got to check this out! It's nuts not to grab one at this price - just $9.97 and that includes FREE shipping in the US!

From editing, to printing, to making CD slide shows, to e-mailing photos, to print projects (calendars, greeting cards, photo books, etc.) - THIS REALLY has you covered! I can't remember when I've been this impressed with a photo editor - or when I've found one this easy to use!

OK, first off it really is a fantastic photo editor. We have people asking all the time for a program that isn't too complicated but can do the "normal" stuff most people do with their photos - this is it! You can crop, rotate, get rid of red-eye, adjust brightness, sharpen, tweak color, enhance contrast, create TON of special effects, and even cut out objects in one photo an display them into another with ease - and that's only a few of the features! I can honestly say I've never seen an easier to use photo editor - it's just sooo easy to use!

Most software stops there, but not this!

In addition to the amazing photo editor, this also can help you do some pretty cool things with your photos. We're talking cool stuff like
creating photo frames, adding clip art to photos, and even putting in your own text message!

PLUS - You can also do a ton of projects too. This includes tools for doing calendars, photo books, greeting cards, photo montages, multimedia e-mail cards, and even a tool to create panorama photos! Now THAT'S COOL! Check out this great calendar page I made in just a few minutes:

What if you want to send a photo via e-mail? This covers ya! You can have the software automatically resize the photo for easy e-mail viewing, or just send along a full size file. Whatever you want, it can do - and it's only a couple mouse clicks to do it! Super-easy!!

That's not all - this can also create CD or DVD slide shows using your photos! You do NOT need a DVD Writer either - just a CD-R or RW will do! You just select the photos you want in the slide show and in a couple clicks you're burning your Video CD or DVD. From there, just pop it into any standard DVD player and see a fantastic slide show! We've featured software that did JUST this and it cost the same!

Finally, just wait till you see the printing - I think this might be my favorite part! You pick a size and it will automatically fit as many photos on the page as possible! Make multiple prints of the same image or put as many different images as you like (or can fit) on a page! Easily the best, most versatile program we've seen for printing photos! It's fantastic!

Again, your price for all of this? Just $9.97 and US shipping is FREE! For everything this includes, that's more than a steal! I can't say enough good things about this one - give it a try, you'll really love it!

Tip of the Day

Burning DVDs in Vista

You may not know it, but burning DVDs with the Windows Vista operating system is extremely easy and a very nice experience! No longer are you required to use third party software, such as Roxio. Nope, Windows Vista has redefined this process and has taken it to a whole new level. Let's check it out, shall we?!

I'm not sure what happened to Vista, but I'll tell you what, I am all for it! Working with read/write DVDs is now a simple joy. To get started, simply stick a blank DVD into your DVD ROM drive and then just sit back and let Vista do all of the hard work. When the AutoPlay message box appears, click on the option that says "Burn files to disc using Windows."

The next window you see will give you a chance to name your blank DVD or CD. It will also give you the option to format it for the Live File System, which is a new feature in Vista that will format your CD or DVD in much less time. Then when it's finished, you will have a recordable CD or DVD you can use as an extra hard drive. Only this time, it will be a lot more portable!

To use your fresh blank DVD or CD, just drag the files you want to put on it into the blank area. The files will immediately be copied. You don't have to click on anything at all. They will already be there for you! When you're finished and ready to eject your DVD, a special pop up will appear, letting you know Vista is closing the session. You will then be able to use it on other computers. Each time you insert the recordable DVD, Vista will "remember" it and allow you to treat it like a portable drive. You can also drag other files to it, as well as, delete files you no longer need on it.

Now, isn't that special? I hope you enjoy this!

Today's Feature

PC Wizard

I have a great download for you today called PC Wizard! This program is made for taking a deeper look into the performance of your computer system. With PC Wizard, you can look at all of your hardware and find out how well it's performing, compared to what it should be doing. And the best part is how easy it is to use. Let's take a look!

Right after you install the program, it will scan your system and let you know what all types of hardware you have. You can then look at each of those devices individually and see the technical information about how they run.

After having some fun with that, go ahead and click on the Benchmarks button, located in the bottom left hand corner. That will allow you to do a performance test on all of your hardware and see how it compares. PC Wizard is also great for finding hardware on your system that may be lacking or needs to be replaced.

And those two features are just half of the information this great program will provide for you. Feel free to surf around. There surely is a lot to discover!

PC Wizard is absolutely free and you can download it for yourself right here. Enjoy!

Track My Shipments

I originally hunted this Web site down for my roommate, but I thought you all might enjoy it as well. I like to tease her when she orders things online, because she stalks the tracking information like a fiend. I always ask her, "Is it here yet? Do you know if it's here yet?" She gets very annoyed with me, but with this site, now she can stalk her packages all from one place!

To get started, you need to register (it’s free!) You’ll need an e-mail address, your first and last name and a password. Next, head on over to your e-mail to get your confirmation e-mail. Click the confirmation link and you’re right back on the site to get started!

It’s even pretty easy to learn how to use. All you have to do is forward your shipping e-mails to track at trackmyshipping.com and then log in on the Web site to keep track of your shipping. That’s fairly easy, right?!

If you're still a little confused or want to get as much information as you can on how to best use this site, just head over to the FAQ section. It answers all the questions you need to know to get started. Next, go over to the Screenshots section, where you'll see pictures of what the different steps look like.

I bookmarked this site right away, because I do a lot of online shopping and I can already sense how often I’ll be using it. Plus, I know my roommate will be using it all the time too. Check it out today!
