[Amp Up Your Business] Lesson #8: 5 Ways to Expand Your Comfort Zone

Possibilities Amplified Home Page | About Kim | Possibilia | The Amp It Up! Blog | Resources

Dear Visitor,

How big is your comfort zone?  For some people it's postage stamp sized.  For others, it's a fairly large neighborhood.  And some people roam a comfort zone the size of a planet.  Is your comfort zone big enough to achieve your dreams?

You see, the size of your comfort zone will determine whether you can tolerate the risks that will be necessary to bring your vision to life.  Courage is a necessary ingredient for amplifying possibility into reality.  That's because you will be doing and saying things that will be considered out of character for you.  You will be acting as if your business vision is going to come true.  The more radical your vision, the more radical must be your change in behavior.  Can you tolerate the uncomfortable feeling that comes with doing something new, especially when the outcome is as yet unknown?

You know that feeling.  You might call it nervousness, or anxiety, or just being uncomfortable.  It's like standing up and speaking in public for the first time.  Or to a much larger group than you've ever spoken to before.  Or on a topic area that's not your specialty.  It's that feeling you get when you work up the nerve to tell someone what you really think, when you know she doesn't want to hear it.   It's that discomfort you might feel when asking for the order, or firing someone, or borrowing a large sum of money.

The better you can tolerate this feeling, the better you will be at taking the necessary risks to bring your business vision to life.  With practice, you'll come to welcome this feeling, because you'll know that it means you're on the edge of your old world leaning into your new world.  You're pushing through the membrane separating the two, declaring your new world to be more real than the old.

Are you really ready to amplify your business possibilities into reality?  There are many ways to increase your risk tolerance and therefore the size of your comfort zone.  Here are some tips for preparing yourself for the risks ahead:

1. Take physical risks.  Now, I'm not suggesting you ride Niagara Falls in a barrel, but studies suggest that taking physical risks prepares us to take risks in general.  First, physical risk requires our complete attention.  We become hyper aware, and narrowly focused on our objective.  We quiet our minds.  These skills serve us well in any risk-taking situation.  Secondly, we feel that uncomfortable feeling.  We practice having it, and become better at tolerating it.  Any physical activity that challenges you can be considered a risk.  This can range from walking a mile to driving a stock car on a racetrack.  I like to stretch myself, so I have done the latter, as well as jumped off the tallest building in New Zealand, rappelled 300 feet into a cave system, and run a marathon.  My next goals are to firewalk and skydive.  How would you like to challenge yourself?

2. Practice taking business risks.  The more you expose yourself to the things that scare you, the easier and more tolerable they become.  Afraid of asking for the sale?  Put yourself into the position of having to ask for the sale over and over again.  Afraid of showing possible investors your business plan?  Line up 20 appointments to do so.  Not only will you get more and more comfortable with these challenges, but you also will gain valuable insight about what you're doing wrong, what you're doing right, and what you could do better.

3. Have a contingency plan and a timetable.  Although the universe can deliver your desired business outcomes in about a million different ways, you are still allowed to map out what you think you can do to bring your vision to life.  If the risks you take are in line with the plan and will help you to achieve critical milestones, then you'll know you're on the right track.  And what if something in the plan doesn't happen like it should?  Thinking about this in advance of executing the plan and coming up with a contingency plan will give you a safety net you can fall back on, if necessary.  Knowing the safety net is there will make the risks more tolerable.

4. Expect failure.  Even more than that, embrace it.  Any successful businessperson will tell you that their success was built on the foundation of their failures.  It's when we fail that we learn what doesn't work, so that we can focus on doing what does work.  When you can take a risk even while knowing that it might not work out, you really open the door to the possibilities.

5. Wear your belief like armor.  If you believe in your ability to make your business vision come true, if you believe that you deserve it, if you believe in the inevitability of your success, and you face the world each day with confidence in those beliefs, the universe will come to your aid in ways that you can't even imagine.  Faith moves mountains, and the risks you take along the way, the new things you do and say, will be the symbols that your vision is coming true.

Visitor, it's been my great pleasure to walk alongside you on your journey to a new business reality.  Please feel free to e-mail me any questions you may have about amplifying your business vision into reality.

Let me also encourage you to bravely continue your journey, and to protect the integrity of your dreams.  Your dreams are among the few things that really belong to you, and no one can take them from you unless you let them.

Dream big, dream boldly, and believe in yourself.

Life is short!  You've got to Amp it Up!

With confidence in you and your amplification powers--

--Kim

[Amp Up Your Business] Lesson #7: RUN!! The Key to Accelerating Progress

Possibilities Amplified Home Page | About Kim | Possibilia | The Amp It Up! Blog | Resources

Dear Visitor,

The last lesson on getting unstuck: have you had to use it yet?

If you got stuck, did you remember to use it?

Sometimes we forget the tools that we have at our disposal when we find ourselves in difficult times.  A good exercise is simply to sit down and list the tools you do have available, and remind yourself of the incredible arsenal of skills, talents and resources you have at your fingertips.  Within you is everything you need to amplify your business possibilities into reality!

Today I want to share with you a tool that will help to accelerate your progress toward your goals.  It's called the Inverse Zeno Report, based on a human-caused phenomenon that happens at the quantum level of the universe.

Physicists have discovered that they can slow down or speed up subatomic activity just by measuring it.  When they slow it down it's called the Zeno effect, and when they speed it up, it's called the inverse Zeno effect.  What they measure determines whether they will slow down or accelerate a process.  How often they measure will determine how much the process will slow down or speed up.  The more frequent the measurement, the more dramatic the change in speed.  In fact, they've discovered that they can slow down a process so much that they can prevent it from even happening.  They can also cause a process to happen instantaneously.

In business, the measurements that we take will either slow down or speed up our progress toward our goals.

Businesses have a tendency to measure things that have already happened: last month's results.  Year-to-date figures.  Year-over-year.  By constantly focusing on the past, we take away our focus on the creation of our business' future.  There are certainly lessons to be learned from the past, and we want to take advantage of those lessons, but more importantly we want to measure toward and aspire to the future we intend to create.

Even more detrimental to the achievement of a business vision is not taking measurements at all.  Does your business have a collection of measurements that will propel it toward the ultimate state you have defined for it?

If not, now is the time to choose those measurements.  Let me give you some examples of measurements that can accelerate your progress.

Most businesses are seeking growth. Growth, for most business models, comes from just a few things: number of customers, size of transaction and frequency of purchase.  Which of these measures will drive the most difference for you?  If increasing the number of customers is the key, then by what percentage must you increase your customer base to achieve your goals, and by when?

The creation of that measurement alone will accelerate your progress, because it will create a focus for the organization.  Out of the focus will come the "how."

The "how" might include formalizing your customer referral system by offering incentives, for example; aggressively pursuing Web 2.0 marketing; establishing joint venture partnerships to get access to new audiences; setting up an affiliate program; giving seminars; offering a "loss leader," a product at a great price that will convert a prospect into a customer more easily, although with less or negative profit; wholesaling your products in addition to retailing them, etc.

If you choose to focus on increasing the size of transaction, by what percentage will you do so, by when?  As you begin to focus on making that measurement happen, you might consider bundling certain products together; offering other companies' product for sale with your own; giving bulk purchase discounts; offering service contracts along with the product; including books, training materials or other intellectual properties that enhance value, etc.

If you choose to focus on increasing frequency of purchase, by what percentage will you do so, and by when?  Frequency can be driven by offering complimentary products after the sale; calling to remind customers that it's time to re-order; providing your customer with other uses for your product that they hadn't thought of; offering time-based discounts, like Best Buy's membership rewards; etc.

You may choose to institute one or all of these measurements to drive your business.  If these measurements don't fit in your model, you might establish a measurement around improving conversion rates: conversion from prospect to customer, conversion from one-time buyer to repeat buyer; conversion from low-cost item to high-cost item purchases, etc.   Conversion is a measurement that can be enhanced all along the customer interaction chain.   How many unique visitors to your website turn into buyers?  How many expressions of interest in your products turn into appointments?  How many appointments turn into requests for quotes?  How many requests for quotes turn into sales?  At each of these points, a measurement can be established to target improved conversion, and strategies can be developed to accomplish those goals.

Once you've established the few key metrics (no more than 3-5) that will drive your business toward its ultimate state, measure frequently.  The creation of a measure will get you started, but it's the constant realigning of activity toward the measurement that accelerates progress and makes the desired outcome come true.

I'm getting excited about your business possibilities!

[Amp Up Your Business] Lesson #6: Get Unstuck by Getting into Wave Mode

Possibilities Amplified Home Page | About Kim | Possibilia | The Amp It Up! Blog | Resources

 Dear Visitor,

One of the most powerful tools used by my clients to create the results they want is to let go of what they think they know, and open up to new possibilities.  While you're holding on to your "one way" of how things should work, the universe will be stymied in delivering your desired result to you.  This simple tool has helped my clients and readers more than double their revenues in 3 months, reach 1-year sales goals in a little over one month, pay back large amounts of debt, and more.  Here's how the science works:

Electrons, like other subatomic particles, are able to be everywhere at the same time when they are in wave mode. In wave mode, all possibilities are available.

You, too, have a wave mode, when all possibilities are available to you. These are the moments before making decisions, or before choosing your next course of action. When you're in wave mode, it's a great time to imagine the results you want to achieve, or the dream you will make come true. The wave mode is jam-packed with answers, ideas and inventions just waiting for you to ask for them.

Getting into wave mode is a function of asking the right questions. Questions that start with "If" are wonderful wave mode kick-starters. Here are some great questions to get into wave mode:

1. If this could work, how would it work?

2. If I did know the answer, what would it be?

3. If I designed the perfect process, what would it look like?

4. If I had access to any resource I needed to make this happen, what would they be?

5. If my dream had already come true, what would my life look like now?

These questions and others like them will catapult you into the realm of possibility. But the most important question of all to ask is, "Is this the right question?" If you've started out on your quest for possibility with limitations in your questions, you will limit the answers you get back from this process. Let's look at an example of using the wave mode to uncover and access invisible possibilities, while at the same time looking at how to liberate you from limitations in the process.

A small business owner has decided that she's not generating enough revenue in her business. She feels strongly that she needs to increase her consulting revenues by $10,000 per month. She sets up a brainstorming session with her staff, and asks the question: "How can we grow consulting revenues by $10,000 per month?"

Lots of ideas are contributed. After the session is over, the entrepreneur reviews the suggestions. None of them feel like a $10K answer, but she hopes that by trying multiple suggestions at once, she'll get there. Her confidence level about achieving her goal is something less than 100 percent.

Can you see how she limited the answers she got back? She started out by asking how to grow consulting revenues. If she'd asked instead, "How can we grow revenue by $10,000 per month?" and not limited the question to consulting, new revenue streams might have been invented right in that meeting. Perhaps the additional revenue burden could have been shared by different products or services offered by the company. And if the ultimate goal behind increasing company revenues by $10,000 a month was to put $5,000 more a month in her own pocket, imagine what possibilities might have opened up by specifically asking how to do that. For example, she could open a second business, or cut costs, or go work for someone else, or pick up some paid speaking engagements. By deciding in advance how the universe would deliver what she desired, she cut off other possibilities that would work perfectly well.

You can see how quickly our small business owner moved from strategically looking at the possibilities for increasing income to the tactical solutions. She had the right idea in setting up a brainstorming session, but she was brainstorming at too low a level. She'd already decided some of the variables. The wave mode is about expansiveness, about opening up all the doors and windows and seeing what flies in.

I once questioned Margaret Atwood, famous author of The Handmaid's Tale and many other works, about where she gets her ideas. She said, "Put your left hand on the table in front of you, put your right hand in the air...and stay that way. You are now a conductor of ideas. Ideas will begin swooping through you. If an idea happens to swoop through your mind, you can capture it and use it. It's yours."

To be a conductor of both possibility and ideas, ask the most unlimited questions you can imagine.

Next time:  RUN!! The Key to Accelerating Your Progress

Wishing you every possibility!

[Amp Up Your Business] Lesson #5: Advanced Techniques for Puttin' It Out There

Possibilities Amplified Home Page | About Kim | Possibilia | The Amp It Up! Blog | Resources

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the fifth lesson in your business amplification course.  Last time you learned about decoherence, and you put together a plan to flood your environment with lots of information about your desired business possibilities in order to make them powerful.

Since it's just been a short while, I certainly don't expect you to have completed your entire plan!  In fact, I expect that you focused instead on a lot of the stuff that normally gets your attention.

Am I right?

Decoherence requires that you shift gears.  The patterns you're currently running in your life or business are not the patterns that will get you to your vision.  (Otherwise, you would have achieved your vision already, yes?)  But your usual patterns also feel very familiar.  They're not scary.  You're used to them.  Through these patterns you are amplifying possibilities right now, just not the ones that, when joined together, create your vision.  Therefore, these patterns must be disrupted.

To make room for your new future, you need to break the present.

Wait a minute, you might say.  I'm doing okay.  My revenue is steady.  My marketing program is working.  I don't want to mess up this good thing!  If I stop running these patterns, doesn't that mean that everything I've created so far will fall apart?

In a manner of speaking, yes.  The old ways of running your business will disintegrate as you turn to the new ways aligned with your vision.  And that can be kind of scary.  When you know that spending time one way will deliver certain results, and that spending time a different way has unknown results, it seems safer to stick to what you know.   But your vision will never come true that way.  Instead you will get more of the same thing you've created so far.  It is only by taking radical steps out into the unknown that a really big vision can become possible.

As you begin to do this, the old patterns and the new ones will interfere with each other.  It will even seem sometimes as if you're being sabotaged, or as if you're sabotaging yourself.  Emergencies will pop up, filling up the time you were planning to spend decohering your vision.  The kids will get sick, or need to be picked up at school.  Your spouse will need to go out of town just when you needed his or her support.  A big prospect will accept a proposal you wrote months ago, thereby sucking up all of your available time. Weeks may go by while your vision sits on the back burner, waiting for you to return to it.  It is at these times that you will feel like you're making no progress at all.

But there's a way out.  Because your well-established current patterns are so powerful, at first they will get the upper hand.  The key is to cause as much disruption as possible so that your new possibilities can flourish.

So, how can you best disrupt today's possibilities to make room for tomorrow's?

Frequency.  Frequency is the key to accelerating the decoherence process, both at the quantum level of the universe and in your business.  The more information you put out there quickly, the more powerful the new patterns of your vision become.

How?  If you're totally strapped for time now, how can you devote any more to this process?

Leverage the universe!  The universe has a long list of resources it's just dying for you to use.  Let me give you some examples.

Virtual assistants.  Visit www.ivaa.org to stat searching for someone you can hire to get some of that clutter off your desk, prepare that presentation, or update the books. And I've got some great recommendations if you email me directly!

Freelancers.  Visit www.elance.com or www.guru.com to find writers, programmers, even sales help.

Interns.  Submit a job description at the career center of the local university, and you'll get some fabulous free or low cost help.

Existing staff.  Could they be doing more?  Might one of your staff members love the opportunity to take over a project and really shine?

Technology.  Can technology automate it for you?  For example, when I post on my blog it goes to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter automatically.  Does yours?

You don't have to do it alone!  Set aside some time to think about some of the standard tasks that you're burdened with now that you could hand off to someone else, or some new tasks related to your vision that would be more quickly and easily done by someone else.  Then, hand them off.  While you deal with the world as it is, your vision can still be decohering in the background in the hands of someone else.  Or, while someone else is dealing with the world as it is, you can be happily crafting your vision.

And lastly, you still have the option of shoe-horning your vision into your days by any means possible, and I actually recommend this.  Your vision should tell you what to do, but it should also tell you what not to do.  You know without me telling you that there are things you are spending time on now that just need to go.  Take them off your calendar!  Put your vision in instead.

I promised in the syllabus that you would learn to analyze your results.  Here's how you'll know if the decoherence process is in full swing: momentum will start to take you over.  You will sometimes feel as if the universe is dragging you along with it.  This is a good thing!  Ride the wave, my amplifying friend.

If it seems as if nothing is happening even though you're putting it out there, persist.  That doesn't mean keep doing the same non-working things over and over.  Change it up!  But mostly, don't quit!  Some visions take just a little bit longer than others to bring into reality.  The only time you should hang it up is when you've realized that the pursuit of that particular vision no longer has meaning for you.

Now, get out there and Amp It Up!

Next time: Get Unstuck by Getting into Wave Mode

Wishing you every possibility!

[Amp Up Your Business] Lesson #4: Leveraging Your Environment for Growth

Possibilities Amplified Home Page | About Kim | Possibilia | The Amp It Up! Blog | Resources

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to the fourth lesson in your business amplification course.  Last time, our focus was creating personal and organizational alignment with your vision.  Do you feel like you now have enough reasons to believe that you are capable of turning your business vision into reality?

Here's the scientific reason why belief alignment is important: the internal environment you create for yourself through your beliefs will either support or sabotage your creative efforts.  In the last ten years or so, the field of epigenetics has been imploding the world of biology.  Epigenetics is the study of environmental forces that are even more powerful than your genes ("epi" meaning "above," therefore "above the genes").  It may come as a surprise to you that your beliefs create your body's internal environment.  Your beliefs--your perception of your environment--determine what chemicals are released inside your body.  These chemicals will place your cells in either a growth mode or a protective mode.

If you've ever experienced stress--a by-product of what you believe about your current situation--then it probably makes sense to you that being stressed puts your body into protective mode.  All energy is routed to the emergency systems.  Even the immune system gets turned off, which is why we often get sick when we're stressed.  In addition, your focus becomes very narrow, because your whole body is focused on survival.  Do you see how fabulous possibilities could pass you right by without you noticing when you're in this state?

The bottom line is the way you perceive your world creates change inside your body, and what's going on inside your body will either help you amplify your possibilities into reality, or prevent you from doing so.  (If you view your company as a giant "body," you can see how organizational beliefs will do the same thing.)

Now on to today's lesson: learning to leverage your external environment to improve your results using decoherence.

Decoherence is the universe's method for turning quantum possibility into the three-dimensional reality we live in.  Only the most robust and stable possibilities are amplified into reality, and all others are supressed.

What makes a quantum possibility robust and stable?  Simple: there's lots of information about it in the environment.  A physicist would say that there are many "informational records" of the possibility.  What makes it stable is that the information is consistent over time.

If you want the environment to help you amplify your desired possibilities into reality, then those possibilities must be both robust and stable as well.   You can do so by flooding your environment with information about your vision, consistently over time.

There are several kinds of informational records you can create: verbal, written, thought and action records.  Creating verbal records just means, tell someone!  Tell everyone!  Tell your staff, your family, your business associates and your customers what you intend to accomplish.  The more you share your vision, the more robust it will become.

Some of the written records you might create could include journal entries, a written version of your vision, a written decoherence plan, a PowerPoint presentation or a video, for example.

Thought records are created whenever you spend time visualizing the successful accomplishment of your goals.

Action records are the physical steps you take to make your business vision come true.  For example, if you need to hire someone to help you leverage your time, write the job description, write the ad, contact your local college for interns, place the ad, start interviewing, etc.  If you need capital, prepare a presentation and set an appointment with your bank or the Small Business Administration office.  Any action you take in the direction of your dreams will make your vision more robust in the eyes of the universe.

To make your desired possibilities stable, keep creating those records!  Don't ever stop, not until your business vision is accomplished.

Here's a link to my Decoherence Worksheet to help you think through some of the informational records you can create.

Next time: RUN!!  Accelerating Your Progress

Until then, wishing you every possibility!

Dear Visitor,

Do you have a dream or goal that you would like to make significant progress on before this year is out?

Would you really like to get clear about your goals for this year, and ban confusion?

Would you like to rekindle the confidence and self-assurance that you felt in the past, but now seems to be eluding you?

If so, then please allow me to invite you to join me at the Clear Path Retreat, an experiential weekend on May 6th-8th in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.

At this retreat, you'll be exploring your innermost desires...and if you don't know what they are, you'll be finding them out!

In a safe, intimate (gorgeous) setting, you'll unwind, reconnect with yourself, connect with other like-minded women, and walk away with the plan, the belief, the tools and the support that you'll need to amplify your dreams and goals into reality.

At the Clear Path Retreat, you'll laugh, possibly cry, rediscover peace, and leave the anxieties and worries of the world behind to focus only on you and your dreams.

I will lead this weekend retreat by showing you step-by-step how to successfully apply the process I designed in my book, The Science of Making Things Happen: Turn Any Possibility into Reality.

When we part ways at the end of the weekend, you will have a clear knowingness of what to do next      (and next, and next) to raise your desired possibilities up out of the ether and watch them take shape in this world. And some new friends.

Please visit www.clearpathretreat.com to learn more and register.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Wishing you every possibility--

--Kim

P.S., if you're male and you received this, don't worry! I'll be holding a co-ed event in the August-September timeframe. I'll send you an invite!
