Firefox Security Warnings I know we here at WorldStart have brought you several Firefox tips in the past and while we've covered a wide range of topics, I ran into something the other day that we have never gone over. Now, I'm a huge Firefox fan and even though I use it religiously, I have never noticed this feature before. I figured some of you might be in the same boat, so I wanted to take care of this right away. So, if you're up for another Firefox feature that you can put to good use, listen up. This one's a must read! As you may recall from a previous tip, I went over all of the basic security features the Firefox Web browser has to offer. But I must not have paid close enough attention, because I missed a very important one. If you go to Tools, Options and click on the Security icon, there's a section at the very bottom of that box titled Warning Messages. With that, you can choose which warning messages you want to pop up while you're surfing the Web. Wow, who knew?! To see your choices, just click on the Settings button. You'll see five options there, each with its own checkbox. They are: "I am about to view an encrypted page," "I am about to view a page that uses low-grade encryption," "I leave an encrypted page for one that isn't encrypted," "I submit information that's not encrypted" and "I'm about to view an encrypted page that contains some unencrypted information." Simply checkmark the warnings you want to see and then click OK. The warnings you receive while using Firefox are completely up to you. Your safety is in your own hands and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want it any other way! ~ Erin It's Friday, it's Friday! Make sure you keep reading to learn all about defragging your flash drives and why it's a big no no, find out how to easily insert a blank line above your MS Word tables and learn how you can set up a Gmail e-mail account in Vista's Windows Mail. Also, be sure to check out the Friday Funnies for your daily laugh and as always, don't miss out on Amanda's Cool Site of the Day. Enjoy and have a fabulous weekend, everyone! : ) WAIT! STOP Right There! Don't You Dare Do It! Don't Give Away Your Old Computer! Don't Throw Out That Old Hard Drive!! Not Without Running This First!! WOW! We had an amazing response to our DriveScrubber software offer yesterday! THANK YOU to the hundreds who ordered!! It's a must-have for anyone using a computer! If you have an old computer you're thinking about giving away or just throwing out you need to STOP! You MUST GET THAT DATA OFF THERE!!!! Think about it - you wouldn't toss paperwork with credit card, bank, or social security numbers in the trash without shredding the heck out of 'em would you? Of course not! However, day in and day out, people toss out old computers and think that just deleting or formatting a drive is going to get rid of all the personal info they had on it - not a chance! When you delete a file, it's not really gone. YES - You read that right! The area where the file sits on the hard drive gets tagged as free space, but until it's overwritten, that data is VERY recoverable. I formatted a test drive and ran recovery software on it awhile ago just to see what would happen. Nearly EVERYTHING was easily recoverable! No problem at all! Recent studies show that 74% of hard drives sold or given away contain data that can be easily read and recovered - and 36% of those hard drives had even been reformatted! Scary Stuff! If you've ever used your computer to check on your banking, buy a product online, or anything that involves your personal info, then that info might be easily available when you get rid of your old hardware! Yikes! Don't think it can happen to you? Well, two MIT students did a study. They went and purchased 158 used hard drives for less than $1000 from a web swap-meet type site. When they went through the drives, they found over 5,000 credit card numbers, medical reports, lots of personal and corporate financial information, and gigs of personal e-mail. And get this - 60% of the drives had been formatted!!! There are people who look for old computers at the curb or in the dumpster just to pull info off the hard drive or sell the drives to others! Plus, if you just "donate" an old computer you have no idea what really is going to happen to it! If this doesn't scare the heck out of you, then you shouldn't be using a computer! Well, we have some really easy to use software that will keep you safe called DriveScrubber. Just pop the CD into your computer (or make a floppy if you still have a drive for one of those) and reboot. Even if you can't boot to Windows, you can still erase that drive with this software! You computer will boot to the CD or the floppy, and you'll have an easy to use interface that makes wiping a drive a snap. Just select the drive and click the "erase" button. ALL the info on the drive will be gone - permanently and forever! You can still reformat the drive and install Windows again once this is done - but any personal info you had on the drive will be completely gone. No worries about anyone ever using your hard drive or old computer to steal you personal info! It's great! I personally have a couple of old hard drives sitting around that I just didn't want to throw out - I was worried about someone finding it and recovering the data. Now I'll be able to completely erase them and toss them into the trash knowing that no one will EVER be able to recover any of my personal data from that drive. Your cost for all this protection? Just $10.97 and US shipping is FREE! Sure, it's not a program that you'll use every day, but everyone with a computer WILL need to use it someday! For this kind of money, it's insane not to be safe. Now's the time to grab this incredible program and give it a try for yourself! Q: A: The simple answer to today's question is: you should never defrag a flash drive. Does that surprise some of you? Well, let me explain! Let's first talk a little about hard drives. The files you have stored on your hard drive are usually saved in several little pieces, often in groups of 512 bytes. Now, those chunks of data are usually never placed next to each other or even remotely close to each other. Therefore, your files are generally spread out all over your hard drive, which is why defragging is so important. The whole defrag process is done through a read/write head that rearranges your files and places them back together for you. That way, when you need to access a certain file, everything is put back together and your computer doesn't have to work as hard to find what you're looking for. Defragging simply helps speed up your system when you need to open a certain file. Yep, that's why it's so vital that you defrag on a regular basis (at least once a month or so). On the other hand, flash drives do not have a read/write head, so if you were to defrag one, you wouldn't get any extra performance benefits from it whatsoever. Basically, without a read/write head, flash drives don't have to work any harder to find your files. Your files can be laid out in any order and your flash drive will still be just as fast when finding them for you. Still not convinced? Then keep reading! Another reason why you should never defrag a flash drive is because flash memory wears out over time. Basically, the more you write (saving files, etc.) to your flash drive, the shorter its lifespan will be. And since defragging is a huge write process, every time you do it, you're adding thousands of extra writes to your device that just aren't necessary. So, if you've been continuously defragging your flash drives, you should stop. If you want your flash drive to last you a long while, simply stop the defrags. You won't get any benefit from it and you'll just end up with a broken down flash drive for no reason at all. Go and defrag your hard drive instead! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: A Blank Line Above Ever have a table at the very top of the first page in one of your MS Word documents and then decide you need text above it? What did you do? Did you try to click above the table, only to find that you selected an entire column? Frustrating, wasn't it? You click and click, but a blank line above the table just never shows up. You may have even considered cutting and pasting into another location. You know, just to get the text inserted at the top of your document. But that seems like an awful lot of work when you could do it with a one click, single keystroke. The next time you need a line above a table, you should do this:
Yep, that's right. Just two quick steps and you've got a blank line above the table, without having to dissect your document too much! ~ April

When you first see this Web site, you’ll probably think it's rather bare. There’s just a log in field and a Sign Up button. RosterBot is a more refined version of the meeting site I brought you a few days ago. Here you will be able to enter the e-mail address of your team, enter in the date of your event and RosterBot will then go to work polling everyone to see when they’ll attend, etc. It will then show you the results! The registration process is simple. Start by clicking the red Sign Up button. The next step is to enter your name, e-mail address, phone number and password. Your phone number is optional, as you only need to supply it if you need your team members to have a contact number for you. Now, click the Next button. While you continue setting up your team event, your confirmation e-mail will come (mine showed up almost instantly). All of this is also explained on the right hand side of the page. The team fields include the name of the team, sport (optional), logo, URL, team type, postal code (also optional, but if you put in a postal code, it will provide a map for your guests), country, state, city and the checkbox for the terms and agreements. When you're finished, just click I’m Done! Your next step is to add players. To do so, just click the Add button next to the Add More Members option. There's an e-mail field, name field, phone number, position and jersey number to fill out. When you have all your members added, click the OK, Next button. Now, you’ll need to fill out your time zone, query time, respond time and manager report options. Those are simply the times when you want things to happen. For example, by default, it is set to query your members three days before the event. Now, you can move on to the calendar page, which is where you will set up your events. Here you’ll see a calendar where you can pick the date, as well as, fill out the event fields of date, time, location, etc. You must have an event title and location to move on. This site is very easy to use and it looks great! It will walk you through each step to make your next event so much easier to plan.
