A Vista Uninstall Are you among the many who are using Windows Vista now? If so, I have a question for you: When you want to uninstall something from your Vista computer, how do you do it? If you're going off the same rules you used in Windows XP, I can probably guess what your answer is (Add/Remove Programs, right?) Well, Vista actually has a new way of doing things when it comes to uninstalls and I'm here today to tell you all about it! When you're ready to uninstall a program, etc. from your Vista computer, here's what you should do from here on out. Go to Start, Control Panel and then under the Programs section, choose the option that says "Uninstall a program." Once you click on that, you will see a list of programs you have on your computer that can be uninstalled. Each one will have some information next to it as well. For instance, you will be able to see the publisher's information (who created the software), when it was installed on your PC and the size of the program. Once you look over all of that information, just find the program you'd like to uninstall, highlight it and then click on the Uninstall button. It will then go through the uninstall process and the program will be gone from your computer for good. That's all there is to it. So, while this procedure worked pretty well in Windows XP, it's just a little bit better and easier to do in Vista. Don't forget to try it out the next time you need to uninstall something. It's your best bet! ~ Erin Make sure you keep reading to learn how you can easily set up your own parental controls for your Windows Vista computer, find out how to duplicate with spacing in MS Word and learn how you can justify your e-mail junkie status. Check it out: http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?product id=4423 Q: A: We have done articles in the past on child safety for Windows XP, but we haven't covered much on this topic for Vista yet and that's what I want to change today! By the time you're done reading this article, your kids (or grandkids) will be using the safest computer in town. Let's check it out! Lucky for you, the parental control software you need for your computer came right along with your Vista operating system, so you don't have to worry about purchasing another program or anything like that. The controls in Vista are designed to help you manage what your children do while they're using the computer. You have total control over what programs your children use, what games they play, which Web sites they can visit and you even have control over the amount of time they can spend on the computer. To keep your mind at ease, everything is taken care of. To get to the Parental Controls section of Vista, go to Start, Control Panel and then select User Accounts and Family Safety. Next, click on the link that says "Set up parental controls for any user." Vista will then ask you if you want to continue since you will be changing some components of your computer. You will only be changing a few settings, so click Continue to move on. Now, the next thing you need to do is make sure all of your accounts are password protected. If you have more than one account on your computer, you need to create a password for each of them. If you don't, your children could log in to another account where the parental controls are not enforced and that just defeats the whole purpose! To do that, click on an account that doesn't have a password. Then click on the Yes button when it asks you if you want to ensure that all your accounts have passwords. You will then be taken to the area where you can set up passwords for all of your accounts. On the other hand, if your accounts already have passwords, you can just skip past this part. When you're ready, click on the account name you want to set parental controls for. You will then see a list of settings and you can go through each one to set them up exactly the way you want them. For the Parental Controls option, make sure the On choice is selected. The next option is Activity Reporting. That one needs to be turned On as well. Next, you can go down the list and change the settings to fit your needs. You can do so for: Windows Vista Web Filter, Time Limits, Games and Allow and Block Specific Programs. Once you have all of those set up, go over to the right hand side of the window and you can change your settings for the Web Restrictions (you can set it to High, Medium, None or Custom) and you can turn on the Time Limits, Game Ratings and Program Limits controls if you want as well. When you're completely finished changing your settings and when you're satisfied they're set right for your children, simply click OK. Once you click OK, everything will take effect! Now, everything is pretty self-explanatory when you're going through the settings, but if you'd like to read more about each one specifically, you can check out this Web site. I highly suggest you take the time to go through your parental controls, especially if you have younger children. Also, if your children use the Internet a lot, you'll definitely want to pay attention to the Web settings. With all the crazy stuff going around on the Web today, you need to take control and keep your kids safe. It all lies within your hands and with it being so easy to do, there's no reason why you shouldn't! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: Duplicating with Spacing Do you use drawing objects frequently in MS Word? Do you use the same object several times and make it evenly spaced so that it creates interesting effects, dividers or custom borders? Maybe something like this: Or, this: Whatever you choose to make, how did you make all of those objects? Did you draw each one separately? Let's hope not. I can't even imagine how long it would take to do that! Did you draw the first one and then copy/paste the others? That's not a bad idea, but it takes awhile to get them all placed properly. May I suggest a method that would require the placement of only the first two objects, with Word placing the rest? And did I mention it only takes a quick key click for the additional figures? Yeah, I thought you'd like that. I was certainly happy to stumble upon this little gem, so let's get down to business!
What you should notice this time is that the added figure doesn't appear below the original like the first one did. Instead, Word pre-placed it into the next position in the pattern you've already started. So, assuming you're going for an evenly spaced pattern, as I mentioned before, you can keep using Ctrl + D for each figure you want to add. You'll find that all the time it took you to create your patterned drawings before is now replaced by a few quick key strokes and you're back to business as usual! ~ April

Here's the link you need: http://www.worldstart.com/ Enjoy! E-mail Junkie Another reader asks: For the work I do, I'm constantly getting e-mails all day long and it's sometimes a pain to go and check it every so often. Is there any way I can set my Outlook Express to do the checking for me? It would be a huge help! So, let me get this straight. You're saying you're an e-mail junkie, right? Oh, I'm just kidding! I think there's a lot of us who don't want to admit it, but deep down, we know we are! By that, I mean, do you check your e-mail several times during the day (like 100 times?!) Okay, so maybe you're not that bad, but wouldn't it be easier to have your e-mail check itself? Believe it or not, but you can do that with Outlook Express! You can set your e-mail to be checked every five minutes or every hour, etc. You can set it to whatever you want! Sound good? I thought you might like that. To make it happen, all you have to do is open Outlook Express and go to Tools, Options and choose the General tab. Look toward the middle of the box under the Send/Receive Messages section. The very last choice there is "Check for new messages every (blank) minutes." Check that box and then choose the amount of time you want for your e-mail to be checked. You can either use the up and down arrows to set your time or you can just type it in. Then right below that, there is an option for when your computer isn't connected to the Internet at the time of a scheduled check. You can either choose for it not to connect you, connect only when working offline or connect even when working offline. Either way you go, your e-mail will never miss a checkpoint and you won't miss out on any of your very important e-mails. It doesn't get any better than that! ~ Erin If you enjoy our tips, tell your friends. That's what keeps this newsletter growing.
Underwater Photography Almost every photographer is thrilled when taking his or her first pictures underwater, whether it's in a swimming pool or in the ocean. The excitement comes not only from the very idea of capturing an underwater scene on camera, but also from being in a completely different environment. It's almost like a whole other world! Underwater Photography in a Word If the difficulties encountered in shooting underwater had to be summed up in one word, perhaps the best would be “limitations.” Communication and travel below the surface are limited. Natural light and visibility are limited, equipment selection is limited and even time can be limited. The secret to successful underwater photography comes from how well you overcome those limitations. The rewards of underwater photography can be great! Since it's a specialized area that relatively few photographers attempt, the opportunities for new and different images are many. People who have little interest in seeing all your other pictures will usually be very eager to see your underwater pictures. There's a novelty aspect to those kinds of photos and we're all fascinated by images we seldom get to see in person. Once you conquer underwater photography, you'll be well on your way to pro status. Have fun! ~ Ramachandran Kumaraswami For stories, jokes, quotes and cartoons every day, sign up for our Just for Grins newsletter. For example: http://www.easy2diy.com/cm/easy/diy...arent2=Category Becomes: http://doiop.com/paintcalculator It's now much easier to remember and share, isn't it?! Not to mention, you don’t have to worry about missing part of the link during the copy and paste process. It’s easy to use and completely free! I really like how you can choose the keyword the link uses. That makes it much easier for you to personalize the links. I hope you’ll bookmark this site for later use.
