![]() | IE 8 Beta Unveiled Nope, that's not a typo. Even though it may be a little hard to believe, I made no mistake when I said Internet Explorer 8. On March 5, 2008 (just this past Wednesday), the Microsoft Corporation announced the arrival of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 and told the public it is now available for download. Isn't that amazing?! It hasn't even been two years since IE 7 was released and Microsoft has already come this far with a brand new version. Make sure you keep reading for the entire scoop. This one's a must see! After the unveiling, Microsoft posted a link on their Web site that was titled "Beta 1 For Developers." Now, that basically means this beta version is mainly meant for developers and designers so that they can test out the layout, the new tools, the programming, etc. However, anyone can access the link, so if you want to download and install the IE 8 preview, you most certainly can. Microsoft also made it clear that the IE 8 beta is available in separate versions for different operating systems (Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008). So, what can you expect from Internet Explorer 8? Well, there are going to be several "never seen before" features. One is a complete IE 8 Readiness Toolkit, which includes new tools like WebSlices and Activities. There will also be a newly redesigned Favorites bar, automatic crash recovery and improved anti-phishing filters. A lot of the new features are similar to what you'd find in the Safari Web browser for Macs, which is also pretty cool. Microsoft is obviously still working on putting IE 8 together, but if you download the preview, you can at least see some samples of what they're doing. You can check it all out right here. Grab your copy today! ~ Erin It's Friday, it's Friday! Can you feel the excitement? Make sure you keep reading to find out how you can get your Change/Remove buttons back in the Add/Remove section of the Control Panel, learn how you can easily do automatic numbering in MS Word and find out how you can add a little pizzazz to your MySpace comments. Also, be sure to check out the Friday Funnies for your daily laugh and of course, don't miss out on Amanda's Cool Site of the Day. Enjoy and have a great weekend, everyone! : )

This month we are looking for your best photo that makes us "THINK SPRING!!" http://www.worldstart.com/photo-contest/ Q: A: First of all, if some of you aren't quite sure what I'm talking about, go to Start, Control Panel and select the Add/Remove Programs link. There you will see a list of all the programs you have installed on your computer. If you run down through the list and highlight your programs, there should be a Change/Remove button for each of those applications. With that button, you can control what you do with your programs. You can either change them or completely remove them from your computer. So, as you can see, if that button isn't there, all your control is gone and that is what's ailing the person who asked today's question. With all that said, let's get on with the show! Warning: For this tip, you will be working in your Registry Editor, so before you begin, make sure you're comfortable using it. The Registry Editor is not a tool to just play around with. If you make a mistake, you could risk messing up other parts of your computer and so on. If you're not 100 percent sure you can do this, please ask someone who is for some help. When you're ready, just simply follow these steps to get your Change/Remove buttons back: 1.) Go to Start, Run and type "regedit" (without the quotes) into the box. Click OK and the Registry Editor will open for you. 2.) Next, navigate to this location: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\<Program Name>." Note: (For the Program Name, you'll want to look for the program you want to remove from your computer). 3.) In the right pane, double click the NoRemove choice (REG_DWORD) and set the value to 0 (zero). If it happens to be set to 1, the Remove button will not be available. 4.) Back in the right pane, double click the NoModify option (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0 (zero) as well. If this happens to be set to 1, the Change button will not be available. Now, you will need to do this for each program you want to remove, but once you change those two values, click OK and close everything else out. Then go back to the Control Panel and look through your list of programs again. All of the Change/Remove buttons should be back for you and you can then continue removing all those unnecessary programs from your computer. No more missing buttons. Oh yeah! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below: Automatic Numbering in Word Tables Did you know you can use the Numbering feature in MS Word within a table? Let's suppose you need to number an entire row, column or a block of cells. You could go through and hand-type each number, but that could turn out to be a nightmare if you tried to go back and delete the cells later. Or, you could get Word to do it for you! All you have to do is highlight the cells to be numbered and click the Numbering button. Poof! Instantly, the cells are numbered, just like any other list in your document. Also, as a bonus, you can do this same trick with Word's bullet feature. There is one thing about Word's behavior I'd like to mention first though. If you place the numbers into cells that contain text and you have used the Enter key to create different lines of text in a single cell, the numbering may not appear as you anticipated. In the example below, the third cell down used the usual word wrap for the text, whereas the cell on the right used the Enter key between words. As you can see, when the Enter key is used, it will number each line within the cell. If that isn't the way you want your document numbered, I suggest you by-pass it by putting your numbers in their own column on the left. There you have it. Getting Word to do the numbering for you is the best way to go! ~ April Incredible Germ Zapper! Amazing UV LIght Kill Bacteria And Viruses! "A microbiologist at the University of Arizona counted bacteria on workplace surfaces for a study sponsored by The Clorox Co., makers of Clorox bleach. Office toilet seats had 49 germs per square inch, he found. But desktops had almost 21,000 germs per square inch. Desks, phones, computer keyboards and mice are key germ transfer points because people touch them so often..." ~ CNN.com YUCK! Is That Disgusting or What?? Kill Those Nasty Germs In Seconds!!! Ultraviolet Technology Makes It Quick, Easy and Chemical Free! WOW! We had a tremendous response to our UV Light this week! Thank You to everyone who ordered! If you missed out, this is one product I think everyone who wants a safe, germ-free environment should have! At work, home, or anywhere - this will help keep the germs down! Now I wouldn't classify myself as a "germophobe", but when I read studies like the one above, I think I could easily become one! When you stop and think about all the surfaces you touch or come into contact with on a daily basis that dozens (or hundreds) of other people touch, you know there are TONS of icky, nasty germs crawling around out there! Especially this time of year, the cold and flu season (yuck!). "UV-C light is germicidal - i.e., it deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens and thus destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease. Specifically, UV-C light causes damage to the nucleic acid of microorganisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA. The formation of such bonds prevent the DNA from being unzipped for replication, and the organism is unable to reproduce. In fact, when the organism tries to replicate, it dies." Here's the great thing, this Disinfecting UV Scanner is extremely portable! It only measures about 5" folded and when it's fully opened it's about 9" in length. It weighs less than a 1/2 lb. and even comes with a handy carrying pouch as well! You can take this with you anywhere and everywhere (discreetly if you choose) and keep bacteria and other harmful viruses away! Great for public bathrooms! This isn't just for you desktop and keyboard either! It's safe and effective to use on your dishes, toothbrush, cell phone, kids toys, car interior, door handles, etc. You get the idea ;-) Everyone here has been scanning their office from top to bottom since we got this in - it's still working on the same set of batteries too! You get about 4,000 scans with this on just one set - pretty amazing, huh? When I was checking this item out, I saw that most similar products like this go for no less than $70.00 - OUCH! - some are closer to $100.00 - yikes! Well get this, your cost is just $16.97 and that includes FREE shipping in the US! Just think about all the money you spend on those little bottles of hand sanitizer every month - this will pay for itself in no time at all! http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4043 PS - Don't spend $70.00 elsewhere ~ do yourself, your coworkers and your family a favor and pick up one for your home and/or office today! You'll thank me later ;-) Fancier MySpace Comments MySpace is quickly becoming one of America’s favorite Web sites and one of the things that makes it so popular is the comment feature. Adding a comment to a friend’s profile is like leaving a little sticky note for them to read. They can then send you a comment back as well. Sounds like a fun way to communicate, doesn't it?! Comments are made of simple text, but they can also be fancy text or an image. And that's exactly what I’m going to show you how to do today. So, let’s get ready to add some pizzazz to your comments! Formatted Text You are probably used to expressing yourself with bold, italics, underlining and different styles of fonts like that, right? Well, sadly, MySpace doesn’t incorporate those types of styles, but I am going to show you how you can! To do that, you can use this nifty little Web site, which is the home of the MySpace Text Editor. When you get there, you will see what looks like a mini Microsoft Word and here’s what you need to do with it: 1.) Just enter in the text you would like to use as a comment. 2.) Once you do that, you can format it using the buttons and drop down lists. It’s so very easy! 3.) When you've finished adding and editing all of your text, simply click on the 4.) Bam! Everything is then converted into HTML code for you. Now, just highlight it all, right click and select Copy.
6.) Right click and choose Paste to place in the code. Voila! You now have a fancy new comment. Images Now, let's move on to images. MySpace recently added a tool that easily allows you to embed any of the millions of pictures found on Photobucket into a comment. Here's how you do it: 1.) Head on over to your friend’s MySpace page and click the Add a Comment link. 2.) Next, click the Add Image From Photobucket link. 3.) You can then scroll through the pages and find an image you like. Select it and press Add Image to Comment. 4.) Press Post Comment and you can then see what your comment looks like. Cool, huh?! Now, what if you want to embed an image that’s not included on Photobucket? Maybe you’d like to use one from another Web site or maybe even one you have saved on your own computer. Here's how: 1.) First, make sure you have permission to use the image. If it's from a personal Web site, you need to ask permission before copying the image. 2.) Next, open your browser and surf to the Web site that contains the image you’d like to use. 3.) Right click on the image and click Properties. Then highlight the image URL and copy it to your clipboard.
5.) Paste that URL into the text box and click OK.
7.) Click the Source button to convert the image into HTML code. 8.) Finally, copy and paste the code into your friend’s comment box on MySpace. Once you do that, you're all done! I often feel much older than 26, so when I stumbled across this quiz, I was anxious to know what my real age translated to when you add in all the factors of lifestyle and medical information. This quiz takes information about your lifestyle, activities, health and habits to give you your real age, according to how you live and not by when your birth date is. The quiz is very easy to take. To get started, just click the arrow on the page. The first question asks how old you are right now. Just use the slider to select your age. Next comes your gender, ethnicity and it then delves into your lifestyle choices, medical conditions, etc. After you answer all the questions, it will calculate your real age. Mine came out to be 34.5, with a life expectancy of 65. That is about 10 years lower than the average life expectancy of 74. It was really interesting to see how things you do or don’t do in your everyday life shape the age you feel like. For example, not smoking, always wearing your seatbelt and limiting the stress in your life will all lower your real age, whereas stress, medical background and smoking all increase your real age. So, how old do you feel? Does it match your Real Age results?
