Let's take a look at the next 2 rules a little closer:
Rule #11
I'll get what I ask for out of life... I'll have the courage to ask. (Read the entire description of this rule in your guide)
So, you've been told all about making formal requests and having faith... what if you haven't quite decided what it is you are trying to achieve? That's normal. Making that kind of decision is pretty much the hardest part. I think one of the reasons for this is that we hesitate to ask for what we really want. This rule addresses this issue.
At the end of your life you will look back and see that you had the job you had because that's what you wanted at one time. You had the home that you had because at one time, that's just the home you wanted. You drove the car that you wanted, at one time. But most of all, your whole life will have become exactly what you believed it could be. In other words, you drove that car because, at one time, it was the best thing you believed you could afford.
Now, the key here is that, in reality, you'll get whatever it is that you ask of life. The only thing holding you back from experiencing the life of your dreams is your level of expectation. Now is the time to start asking more largely. Take your dreams up a notch, and see what happens when you start to believe you can have, do, and be something a little more than you are presently asking for.
If you want a raise, ask for one. What a concept! But how many people sit around the lunch room complaining that it's been so long since they've received one? Get up out of your chair and go ask for one. Your boss just might say "yes" but how will you ever know unless you take the leap?
Successful people ask for things regularly. Mediocre people wait for someone to come along and offer them more. Ask your bank to reverse a service charge. What do you have to lose? Ask for a lower interest rate. If you are uncomfortable asking for things, start small. Ask for a lemon wedge with your water.
Rule #12

When you are out there asking for things, understand this: you cannot - and should not manipulate any other person's right to choose what they do for you. If you want a service charge reversed, don't picture in your mind the teller you are speaking with saying "sure, here you go..." Rather, picture the money already re-deposited into your account. It is not up to you to choose who puts it back, you're job it to picture it done and feel the gratitude you expect you'll feel when it is done. Then, if the teller you are speaking with does not do it for you, you'll instinctively ask for a supervisor, or someone else who has the authority to make it happen.
Your expectation is that it will get done. When you hear "no," you don't give up, because the results you visualized just haven't happened yet. You keep at it until you reach your goal. Obstacles are never indications of failure, unless YOU choose to throw in the towel. It's your choice.
