OE Account Names Do you use Outlook Express as your main e-mail program? If so, how many accounts do you have set up? Maybe you have one for yourself, one for your spouse and a couple others for your children. We have a similar setup for our e-mail accounts here at the WorldStart office. We all need to have our own e-mail address, because it just wouldn't make sense for all of us to use the same one. Okay, so what am I getting at? Well, keep reading and you'll find out! With all the accounts you have set up, have you ever needed to change the name on one of them? You know, maybe two of your children needed to switch accounts or maybe you just felt like changing your account name to something a little more fun. We've had to do that many times here in the office. For instance, when new employees are hired in and others leave, we have to change the account names so that the e-mails will come from the right person. So, if you need to do this too, how can you? Well, it's really simple. Just follow along with me! In Outlook Express, go to Tools, Accounts. There you will see a list of all the OE accounts you have on your computer. Highlight the name you want to change and then click on the Properties button. A new dialogue box will then open and you can type in the name change. You'll want to do that in the very first box you see, as well as, under the User Information section. You'll also want to change the e-mail address to fit the one the new person uses. Just delete the old information out and type in the new. It's that easy! When you're all finished, click OK and then Close. So, from now on, all your accounts will be updated with the right information and all your e-mails will be correct again. I'm lovin' it, aren't you?! ~ Erin You can't stop now! There's so much more to read about. Keep going to learn all about what you can do to troubleshoot a video card problem, find out how to easily keep your text in its place in MS Word and help solve another e-mail mystery. Also, be sure to check out this week's awesome download thanks to Gary and of course, don't miss out on Amanda's Cool Site of the Day!
This'll Gross You Out: "A microbiologist at the University of Arizona counted bacteria on workplace surfaces for a study sponsored by The Clorox Co., makers of Clorox bleach. Office toilet seats had 49 germs per square inch, he found. But desktops had almost 21,000 germs per square inch. Desks, phones, computer keyboards and mice are key germ transfer points because people touch them so often..." ~ CNN.com YUCK! Is That Disgusting or What?? Kill Those Nasty Germs In Seconds!!! Ultraviolet Technology Makes It Quick, Easy and Chemical Free! First, I'll give you a little background on the technology behind it - it's really pretty interesting! "UV-C light is germicidal - i.e., it deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens and thus destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease. Specifically, UV-C light causes damage to the nucleic acid of microorganisms by forming covalent bonds between certain adjacent bases in the DNA. The formation of such bonds prevent the DNA from being unzipped for replication, and the organism is unable to reproduce. In fact, when the organism tries to replicate, it dies." ~ Ultraviolet.com (You can read more about it by clicking here.) Here's the great thing, this Disinfecting UV Scanner is extremely portable! It only measures about 5" folded and when it's fully opened it's about 9" in length. It weighs less than a 1/2 lb. and even comes with a handy carrying pouch as well! You can take this with you anywhere and everywhere (discreetly if you choose) and keep bacteria and other harmful viruses away! This isn't just for you desktop and keyboard either! It's safe and effective to use on your dishes, toothbrush, cell phone, kids toys, car interior, door handles, etc. You get the idea ;-) Everyone here has been scanning their office from top to bottom since we got this in - it's still working on the same set of batteries too! You get about 4,000 scans with this on just one set - pretty amazing, huh? When I was checking this item out, I saw that most similar products like this go for no less than $70.00 - OUCH! - some are closer to $100.00 - yikes! Well get this, your cost is just $16.97 and that includes FREE shipping in the US! Just think about all the money you spend on those little bottles of hand sanitizer every month - this will pay for itself in no time at all! http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4043 PS - Don't spend $70.00 elsewhere ~ do yourself, your coworkers and your family a favor and pick up one for your home and/or office today! You'll thank me later ;-)
No Kidding!! Our BEST Price EVER!!! End Of The Year Memory BLOWOUT!!! Oh, and get this - these aren't second rate drives, they're PQI drives so you know they're top of the line, and they have a lifetime warranty! I personally just love these things! I use them for transporting photos, backing up important files, transferring large files - or large numbers of files. It's really handy for bringing files from work to home (and vice versa) ~ I finally got my husband to start using one and he can't believe how simple they are to use and how much easier it makes "transporting" files! These have replaced the floppy and frankly I think they are probably putting a pretty good dent into CD-R and DVD-R sales! Why burn a disk when you can use these? I can't even remember the last time I burned a disk for anything! I back up all my important files right to one of these! Oh, and setup is soooo easy! For XP or Vista computers, you just plug it and you're good to go. The drive will show up under My Computer. Just drag the files over you want to put on the drive! That's it! Here's my favorite feature on this drive... it's "lidless" so you don't lose the cap (like I do all the time). The cover just slides over (while still attached) so you can easily access the USB port and then easily close it back up for storage! I'm so happy about this, I know I've ruined more than one flash drive while it was floating around in my bag without the cover ;-( Again, the price is AMAZING, so now's the time to buy! Just $28.97 and US shipping is FREE! $50-$70 retail!! It's crazy not to grab a few a this kind of price! Here's the link: http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=3697 PS - We're not sure how long our inventory is going to last on these as it is a limited quantity deal! So, get to the site as soon as you can ~ as usual, first come, first served!! Q: A: Luckily, I have some great suggestions for you today. Now, before you get started, keep in mind that all of the below techniques require you to work inside your computer. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, please find someone to help you. Whether it's someone you know who is really good with computers or if you have to take your PC to a shop, it's better to get some help with this kind of thing. If you don't, you could end up messing up other parts of your computer and I would hate it if that happened. So, when you're ready, let's get started! 1.) Reseat Your Video Card - The first thing you can try is just a simple reseat. That is, removing the video card from its slot and putting it back in. Doing that ensures the card is in tight and properly set. Note: You can not do this with an on-board video card and make sure your computer is turned off first! 2.) Try a Different Card - If reseating the video card doesn't work (or if you have an on-board model), try exchanging it with another one. Maybe you have access to an old card and you can try putting that one in your computer instead. If that one works, you'll know for sure that your video card has gone bad. Otherwise, keep troubleshooting! 3.) Replace the Video Card - If the above two methods didn't do the trick, you may just want to go ahead and replace your video card. Unfortunately, if an alternate card doesn't work, it's almost certain you'll need a brand new one. There's just not much else you can do when it comes to getting the best display possible. 4.) Replace Your Motherboard - Now, this one should only be used as a last resort. If you're still having trouble after replacing your video card, you may need to look a little further into the problem, which brings up the topic of your motherboard. In fact, you may not have a bad video card after all. Yep, you could have a defective motherboard instead. In that case, you'll want to replace your motherboard and you can then try your old video card again. That should solve the problem. Of course, it's unfortunate if it goes that far, but it does happen every now and then. Also, you'll definitely want to get some help with your motherboard if you don't feel comfortable working inside your computer. As you can probably tell, things are pretty cut and dry when it comes to problems like this. You can either fix it very easily or you have to do a little more digging to get it resolved. Either way though, it's good to know what you can do to get the problem fixed once and for all. Don't you agree?! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below:
No More Misplaced Text Have you ever found yourself proofing an MS Word document, only to find that the text seems out of order? You're looking at the words and you're thinking, "Now, what happened here?" You know you didn't type the text that way and yet, there it is. Your thoughts are all in a jumble. Hmmm, was it a program glitch? A virus? Fortunately, I can say, "No, probably not!" You're actually a victim of an accidental drag and drop. Drag and drop? Yep, that's what I said! Word's default setting is to let you highlight text and then, while holding down the left mouse button, drag it through the document. When you release the mouse button, Word drops the text into the new position. Or, if you need to duplicate text, you can use the same process while holding down the Ctrl key. That way, when you "drop" the text, Word will make a copy of what was highlighted and place it in the new location. Okay, so enough of what the drag and drop can do. What if you don't want any part of it? What do you do if you're constantly finding text out of place? Let's face it, when you like to click, click, click (and I know many people who do), accidents like these can happen quite frequently. So, the question becomes: "Is there a way to turn off Word's drag and drop feature?" I'm happy to report that yes, there is a way to turn the drag and drop feature off, completely removing the risk of accidentally misplacing text within your document. If this sounds like a change you need to make and you're using an older version of Word, you'll need to begin with the Tools menu, Options choice. When the Options dialogue window opens, you're looking for the Edit tab. At this point, you need to locate and uncheck the "Drag-and-drop text editing" option. With that change made, click OK. For those of you using Word 2007, don't feel left out. You too can control this option! You're looking to start in the Office button list and then click the Word Options button. You need the Advanced options, Editing Options section at the top of the list. Uncheck "Allow text to be dragged and dropped" and then click OK. When you're returned to your document, highlight some text and try to drag it. You should find that the highlight works the same as it always did, but you no longer get an arrow mouse pointer that allows you to drag it around your document. If you can't drag, you certainly can't accidentally move the text all over the place! Now, when something is moved, you've got to actually mean to move it. It will require the highlight, a cut (Ctrl + X) and then a paste (Ctrl + V). There's no mistaking your intentions with that procedure, so from now on, the "how did that text get there?" problem should be minimized. Yes! ~ April

Slow, Clogged Drains!?! Get 'Em Moving In Minutes! No Chemicals Necessary! What is it? Well, it's called the Drain Sweeper and let me tell ya - if you use drains, you need this! :-) I just purchased a new house and one of the drains was running a bit slow. I tried some liquid drain unclogger stuff, but it really didn't help (and that stuff's expensive!). Then I remembered one of our suppliers sent us a sample of this "Drain Sweeper" thingy so I decided to give it a shot before tearing the pipes apart. Well, all I can say is WOW! What a great little tool! You simply feed the line down into the offending drain, and then pull the trigger as you remove the line. It brought up a ton of nasty gunk (gross!), but I gotta tell ya, it sure did fix my slow drain problem! Works like a champ now! Just for good measure, I ran it in all the drains in the house - just to get them flowing as good as possible. This is one of those tools that everyone needs to keep in their home! Honestly, I'm nothing but impressed! I mean, let's face it - eventually you're going to have a clogged up drain (heck, you might even have one right now) and rather than calling a plumber, you'll be saying, "Man, I'm glad Steve told me about this Drain Sweeper!" Hey, if it saves just one call to a plumber, it's paid for itself 5 times over (or more)! Plus, the price is fantastic - just $14.97 and US shipping is FREE! It's crazy not to have one of these - give it a shot, you'll be glad you did!! http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=4008 PS - Due to the popularity of this item here at WS and with our supplier, these are extremely hard to come by so we're not sure how long they'll be available! Hurry to the site before they're gone!
The E-mail Mystery Do you use Outlook Express? If so, have you ever run into the problem where Outlook Express tells you it's trying to send a message, but when you look in your folders, there's no e-mail to be found? Isn't that the worst? What could be going on? I mean, you know you have sent all of your messages out, but Outlook Express still insists that you haven't. How rude! Well, there are a couple of things you can check on before you go off and switch e-mail programs. Let's take a look see! The first thing you'll want to check is your Outbox folder. Go in there and click on the View menu and choose Current View. Once there, make sure the "Show All Messages" choice is selected. This ensures that you're able to see all of the messages that are contained in your Outbox folder. If you then see an e-mail message appear, you can send it off normally or even delete it if you want. The next thing you can check is within the Outbox folder itself. Go to File, Folder, Compact. If nothing happens, your folder is probably okay and you don't need to worry about it any longer. If you happen to get an error message, the Outbox.dbx file may be damaged. There are a couple of causes for this. One could actually be an antivirus program that scans outgoing e-mail. Unknown to some, the e-mail scan isn't really necessary to protect your computer, especially if you have a regular antivirus program running as well. Go ahead and disable any e-mail scans to prevent any other e-mail files from being damaged in the future. If you do have a damaged Outbox file, the next thing you'll want to do is repair it (obviously!) To do this, you need to know where your store folder is for your e-mails. If you're not sure where it is, go to Tools, Options and click on the Maintenance tab. Toward the bottom is the Store Folder button. Click on that and a box will pop up telling you where your store folder is located on your computer. It will give you a drive letter. Write that down if you think you'll forget it. You can also change the location at this point if you want to do that. Once you have that, close Outlook Express and open up your store folder. Find the file titled "Outbox.dbx" in there and delete it. When you open Outlook Express again, a new Outbox folder will automatically be created, so you can continue to use it just like normal. Most times, the problem lies within an unsent message, but it's good to know what to do if that isn't the case! ~ Erin If you enjoy our tips, tell your friends. That's what keeps this newsletter growing.
Gmail Disk A couple days ago, Erin wrote about the possibilities of Google making an online storage area known as the Gdrive. Although Google has not yet released this type of technology, some great programmers out there have created a program that turns your Gmail account into an online storage space. It's called the Gmail Disk and it makes a disk on your computer that looks something like this:
After putting your files onto your Gmail Disk, just log in to your Gmail account and search for “gmailfs.” That will show you every file you have added to the Gmail Disk. Pretty cool, huh?! You can download the Gmail Disk for yourself right here. To install the program, just download and extract the zip file and then double click on the Setup.exe file. The program will then do the rest on its own. Enjoy! ~ Gary For stories, jokes, quotes and cartoons every day, sign up for our Just for Grins newsletter. One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is all the Christmas carols! I found this lovely Web site and I am just itching to share with you. My family used to go Christmas caroling at least once during the holiday season for an evening. Those were some of the best times for me, so this site really brings back some great memories! Here at Christmas-Carols.net, you’ll not only find the lyrics to your favorite Christmas carols, but each page has a midi of the song so that you can sing-a-long! I went to my favorites right away, which are “Ding Dong! Merrily on High,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Silver Bells” and “White Christmas." Some of the pages have an iPod Nano ad on them that has sound, but if you click the Sound Off button in the right corner of the ad, you can listen to your music with no interruptions. With well over 50 Christmas carols, it is well worth it! I hope you enjoy these Christmas carols as much as I did. I know I’ll be sitting around my computer just singing along with them, because that's what I love to do. It's also a great way to sing Christmas carols with your family all gathered around you this holiday season. Enjoy! http://www.christmas-carols.net/ ~ Amanda Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?
