Quick Tips

Flaming

Have you ever been involved in a flaming match? Not sure how to answer that, because you don't know exactly what it means? Well, allow me to give you a brief description and let's just say, I hope none of you have! According to techterms.com, the term "flaming" is basically "the act of posting or sending offensive messages over the Internet." The actual messages are called "flames" and they can be posted on message boards, sent in e-mails or even sent through an instant messaging program. Keep reading for all the details!

It's no surprise that discussion forums are the biggest hotspot for flaming. It's easy to start a flame war (also called "pie fights") on a message board, because there are several people using it at once and if someone takes something the wrong way, it could lead to some trouble between certain members. Of course, it's unfortunate that flaming even happens. I mean, most people go to a forum for help, not to listen to a bunch of people insulting one another. Flaming really puts online forums in a negative light, so if you want to avoid a flame war, you should be considerate of other people's views and keep your comments to yourself.

Now, I know flaming occurs on WorldStart's message board every once in awhile and several of you have probably witnessed it. We here at WorldStart do not take flaming lightly and we urge you to refrain from participating in it or report anything you may see. When you're talking to other people over the Internet, it's very easy to misunderstand something someone says, but if you just ignore it and move on, you'll be much better off. The same goes for any flames that may show up in your e-mail or during an IM session. Flaming really isn't necessary when we can all be civil adults instead!

Spring Clean Your Computer!

Grab GIGs Of Hard Drive Space Back In Minutes!!

Our BEST Price EVER Today - $8.97!!!! (really!)

Time To Get Rid Of The JUNK!!! The Easy Way!

OK, I tend to run a pretty tight ship when it comes to my computer. I don't mess around. It's lean and mean - I don't have any excess files taking up space, no left over registry entries, no software hiding out on my HD, very few temp files, in short - no excess. Or so I thought!

I ran Spring Cleaning and in about two minutes it recovered 4 GIG of space! I couldn't believe it! Just one click and I make a HUGE space gain on my hard drive! And that's only one of about 20 such buttons!

So, next I was off to the registry section. I click Fix Registry expecting only to find a few minor problems. Wrong again! This time, it finds 608 entries that were no longer valid! The programs for them were long gone, but the entries remained! Clean up was just a click away.

Now I'm thinking, "This is great, but what else is there?" So, I decide to check for duplicate files. Now, this time I'm sure the results are going to be light.

Good thing I'm not a betting man! This software found a whopping 8,425 duplicate items (I was shocked)! Now, many of these files just share a name, so I left them alone. However, I still found a lot of stuff that I could easily clean out - and this program made it simple!

In addition, this features a program uninstaller that's absolutely fantastic. It really puts the Windows add/remove programs utility to shame. Most uninstallers just get rid of the main program files. Lots of stuff gets left behind - especially registry entries. Well, this scans the program files and finds EVERYTHING! It even shows you what it's found - registry entries and all! A quick click and it's gone. This alone is enough reason to grab this title!

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! This can also move programs to a new location on your computer, or transport them to another PC! It can compress programs that you don't use often to save space, backup programs, give you graphs for storage usage, and tons more!

To say I'm impressed with this software would be the understatement of the year! This thing is AWESOME! My windows install really isn't all that old (3 months), but this software managed to find literally thousands of ways to make it better.

Oh, almost forgot - it's designed to make it easy for everyone to work with too! It has automatic settings for just about every function, but also gives power users advanced options.

Take a look at all this can do:

Remove unwanted programs
Easy, One-Click cleanup
Backup, restore, and archive programs
Remove cookies
Remove Active X controls and plug-ins
Transfer programs between PCs
Monitor installs for better removals
Fix and clean the Registry
Get rid of leftover files
Graphically view disk and file space
Undo accidental changes

AND MORE!

This software is just fantastic. It can really help you to recover wasted space and get things running better. If you are using Windows, this is something you've got to try!

Your cost is just $8.97 and US shipping is FREE! This is the current version and retails for $30, so you're getting an amazing deal on a piece of software that' a must have! It's the best $12.97 you'll ever spend on your PC!

http://store.worldstart.com/product.php?productid=1856

PS - I personally can't believe how much space was gained by using this software. Then to eliminate a ton of duplicate files and fix over 600 registry problems, all I can say is WOW!

Killer Deal On A Compact Flash Card Reader!!

WOW! It's Almost A Give-Away!

WHEW! Did we get a deal on an awesome Compact Flash Card Reader for ya! Plus, this is just the handiest card reader I've come across! If your camera uses Compact Flash cards, then this is one accessory you just gotta grab!

This easy to use USB 2.0 card reader is super-easy to use too! Just plug your card into it and pop it into a USB port! That's it! You can drag and drop the files on your CF card to anywhere on your computer! It couldn't be easier! Oh, and at USB 2.0 speeds, those file transfers are incredibly FAST!!

If you're still messing around with hooking your camera up to your computer to transfer files, you'll absolute LOVE this! It's soooo much easier!

Finally, I love how small this is! I've already replaced my old card reader with this one! I had a multi card reader, but I only use CF cards. This takes up almost no room at all in my laptop bag so it's great to take on trips! I can't recommend this one highly enough!

Oh, and the price is almost give-away too! Just $6.97 and US shipping is FREE! Killer deal - but we only have a limited quantity so you'll have to hurry! Grab yours today!

Computers 101

Q:
Is there any way I can make my Favorites even more accessible? If so, please tell me how!

A:
You can panel them! Okay, so let me get this straight. You have a big list of Favorites saved to your computer, but every time you want to view one, you have to go searching through all of them. Am I right? Do you like that? I surely don't! It gets to be just a little repetitive after awhile, especially if you have a ton of favorite Web sites saved.

Well, an easy fix to this problem is to display them right along with your browser. To do that, open Internet Explorer and go to the View menu, Explorer Bar. You'll see that you have the options of Search, Favorites, History, etc. to choose from. Go ahead and click on Favorites and a left side panel will appear right in your Web browser. You can then go and click on whichever Favorite you want to look at and you'll instantly be taken there!

If you ever want to get rid of the panel, you can close it with the X located in the upper right corner. Or, if you'd like to show your History or have a Search bar, you can go back to the View menu and select either of those as well. You can only show one topic in the panel at a time though, so keep that in mind. You can also add and organize your Favorites while they're in the panel.

Now, if you use Firefox, you have Bookmarks saved instead of Favorites, but you can get the panel there as well. To do so, open Firefox and go to the View menu, Side Bar and click on Bookmarks. Your bookmarked sites will all appear in the left panel. You can also show your Web site history in Firefox. Pretty cool, huh? Give it a try today!

MS Office

Space It Out

Ever find that you need a little extra space between two paragraphs in an MS Word document?

Thinking maybe a quick way to add a 12 point space before a paragraph would be a nice little trick to have up your sleeve?

Well, to insert that extra space before a paragraph, all you have to do is simply place the cursor anywhere in the paragraph and use the Ctrl + 0 (zero) key combination.

Need the space above several paragraphs?

No problem! Just highlight all the paragraphs to be affected and again, use Ctrl + 0.

Spaces too big? Need to remove them?

Again, a very simple solution. Ctrl + 0 works as a toggle switch: once to add a space, twice to remove the space.

So, just highlight the paragraph(s) affected and use the Ctrl + 0 combination to remove the extra space.

There you have it. Extra spacing with just a quick key combination!

Ultimate Mahjongg 5

This one is really hot!

Master this Ancient Chinese Game of Skill and Chance!

This has become my new favorite game in the whole wide world! I must admit, up until a couple of months ago I had no idea what the game of Mahjongg was ~ I thought it was just some funny little tile pieces that you matched up - I didn't know!

Well, now that I have learned how to play, I just LOVE it! Mahjongg is a game of strategy that tests your skill and believe me, it can try your patience!

Here's the basics, there is a virtual board of tiles that you need to match up in pairs. As you match pairs they disappear from the tile board. Sounds easy? Not really! The tile board is setup in different designs and has multiple layers so you need to make sure you are removing them in a strategic way. You need to clear all the tiles in order to win!

I play this quite often (not at work of course) and I never get bored! This game comes with over 1250 backgrounds, 200 Mahjongg layouts, 300 tile sets and over 5 exciting ways to play! You can even play online against family and friends! I'm telling you, if you haven't played this before, you've got to give it a try! You will LOVE it! Check out the awesome graphics:

WiFi Locator

Our BEST Price EVER!!!

WOW! A MUST-HAVE For Laptop Users!

We have one of the absolute coolest laptop gadget I've ever run across! If you have a laptop, chances are you use it to connect to wireless access points when you're on the road (or you're going to soon :-). That's the main reason I bring mine along on trips - so I can access the Internet.

My old routine to find out if there was a network available went kind of like this:

1. Dig laptop out from under about 3 suitcases.
2. Carry it to where I think there might be a hotspot to log onto.
3. Find a spot to sit and pull laptop out of the bag.
4. Boot up laptop and wait 3 or 4 minutes for it to finally get into Windows.
5. Check for wireless connections.
6. Find out there aren't any, pack up, and try a new spot.

There's gotta be a better way, right? That's where today's gadget comes in. It's a wireless network detector that's going to make your road trips a whole lot better!

Just press the button on the front of the unit and it will show you if there are any networks available and how strong the signal is! I've traveling quite a lot and let me tell you, this really comes in handy! It saves me dozens of needless bootups and a lot of time. Here's a quick overview:

No more booting up your notebook to find a WiFi signal
Detects most available WiFi networks with the press of a button
Signal strength indicator light
Compact and lightweight design fits in pocket
Detects 802.11b and 802.11b signals up to 1000 feet away
No software or computer required

Cool huh? If you purchased your laptop to use when you're out and about, this is simply a no-brainer. It makes it so much easier to find hotspots and saves a ton of time in wasted bootups. I don't know about you, but my schedule is tight and I just don't have the time to waste playing "find the hotspot". Instead of hunting around, I just keep this little device in your pocket and press the button. If there's a network, then I pull out the laptop! It's just great!

Your cost today is just $14.97 and US shipping is FREE! Stop wasting time and energy trying to find hotspots - grab one today! This is our BEST PRICE EVER on a WiFi Detector - be sure to get one today!

Tip of the Day

Replacing Your iPod's Battery

Here's the scenario: you've charged up your iPod when all of the sudden, the battery drains out and you're just not in a position to replace the existing one with a brand new one. Well, luckily, there’s an easy fix for that. You could call Apple and they will replace the battery for you, but that will cost you significantly and you will also have to wait a week or two for it. So, why do that when replacing the battery yourself is as easy as one, two, three?! Just follow these simple steps and you will never have to depend on Apple or a repairman for anything related to your iPod battery. Just one warning before we begin though: Practice patience while replacing your battery. I urge you not to do anything in a hurry. Alright, let's get started!

Tools to Employ

You'll need one hard plastic wedge, but don’t use any metal tools, as they could damage the body of your iPod. You can purchase such tools from PDASmart.com. Or, you could also use a hard plastic guitar pick, just not the ones made with rubber.

Shopping for a Battery

You can buy replacement batteries from iPodbattery.com, PDASmart.com and Laptopsforless.com (just as a few examples).

Removing Your Old Battery

1.) First, remove the back cover of your iPod. You can do that in one of many ways and then stick to the method you like the most.

2.) If there are no screws on the back of your iPod, use the plastic wedge to open it. Try to work the plastic wedge until you're able to insert it between the metal back and the top cover. Try to do it without much force as well. Next, slide the wedge along the gap and pop in the tabs to release the back cover. Do this slowly by holding the case.

Now, you will be able to separate the front and back parts. Be sure not to pull the back cover off though, as the metal half of the case is connected to the top of the unit with a thin ribbon cable. To avoid any damages, carefully place the two halves of the case close to each other on a flat surface. You'll then need to remove the hard drive, which is on top in a blue piece of rubber. Be careful, as it is connected to the board with a cable. Next, carefully disconnect the hard drive by lifting up the socket of the cable from the board.

Now, you have access to the battery. Slowly remove the battery from its compartment using the small wedge. Be very careful, because the battery is sitting on a circuit board. You need to make sure the wedge doesn't touch the circuit board as well.

3.) Before you remove the battery, you need to disconnect the power cord located next to the circuit board.

4.) When you've done that, gently pull out the connector cord.

Replacing Your Battery

Next, go ahead and plug the connector on your new battery into the socket. Do not force it, as it will only fit in one way. Now, carefully fix the battery in its compartment. Go ahead and wrap the battery cord carefully around the circuit board, just like it was when you opened it. Then connect the hard drive again and put the metal iPod cover back on. That's it!

Note: You should also charge your iPod for at least four hours before you use it again. Enjoy your new and improved iPod, my friends!

Swing-Sked

Welcome to a great Wikispace, where you will find plenty of swing music! More specifically, you will find music dating back from the 1930s to the 1950s. The introduction explains the type of music you’ll find, what all of the codes mean (for example, ET means Eastern Time, PT means Pacific Time, etc.), as well as, what format the station is in.

Beneath the Introduction area, you’ll find the station table. It’s divided into four parts: Station or Program Web site, Listen, Start ET, Start PT and Length. The Listen section is what you really want. That’s how you can tune in to the stations. But, if you run into any problems getting a station to load, you may want to head over to the station’s Web site to see if you can get help there.

I’ve gotten totally addicted to Radio Dismuke, which is a continuous stream of music from the 1920s and 1930s. I also really enjoy how they list the special programming geared toward this type of music throughout the week. You can find that underneath the main set of stations listed.

Beneath the individual days on the table, you’ll find the archives. That's where you can find places that have older broadcasts stored so that you can download and listen to them at your leisure!

There are times when I listen to this kind of music and I’m certain I was born in the wrong century. Enjoy listening. I know I will!
